Introducing Louisa Joy Wise – Musician, Artist, Mother

The healing power of music is undeniable. Whether you love rock, rap, folk or classical, music often makes us feel very VERY good. Louisa Joy Wise’s music inspires happiness! Take a moment and listen and you hear not only an accomplished international fiddle player but a voice equal to many country and folk stars.

Louisa Joy Wise was born in the USA and emigrated to Australia in the early 1980’s where she quickly made a name for herself as an accomplished musician, performing first at local events and then with a renowned Fremantle based string band, Bungarra. That’s where she met her first husband Scott Wise.

Louisa and Scott were blessed with three musical daughters who have vibrant musical careers in Australia. Lucy performs solo and with the Lucy Wise Trio. (She is currently touring in the United Kingdom – Learn more!)  Rowena is also a soloist and plays with the Rowena Wise and the Guys.  Ruth is a tune writer and helps run music festivals. They also appear together as “The Wise Women”

Playing fiddle, guitar, banjo, piano, dulcimer, spoons and even the mouth bow, Louisa has performed at many music festivals, including the Woodford, the National, Port Fairy, Cygnet, South Australian, the Top Half, Fairbridge, and the National Fiddle Festival. She’s been the opening act for several oversea’s music stars touring Australia, including: Richard Thompson and Louden Wainwright III, Warren Zevon, Andy Irvine, Tony McManus, Martin Carthy, Brendon Power, Alistair Anderson, Jez Lowe, Gerry O’Beirne, Richard Stilgoe, and Artie Trezise and Cilla Fisher. And she’s also worked extensively in the theater, live radio and television.

Louisa’s New Album – Sweet Birds

sweetbirdsalbumcoverReleased in 2015, “Sweet Birds” features songs drawn from over a period of ten years and cover subjects as diverse as riding on a Melbourne tram, flying up the WA coast in a small plane to get to a gig, the art of instrument making, the struggle to learn something new, listening with insomnia for the dawn chorus, relationships and lost loved ones, and an expat’s journey to her first homeland. There is also a fiddle piece about creatures named acidians in Sydney Harbour. The beautiful cover painting of flying instruments is by Geoff LeBlanc.
