2016 IC Doctor Of The Year – Dr. Robert Evans

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Robert Evans (Wake Forest Baptist Health) has, for a second year in a row, been voted the 2016 IC Doctor of the Year during our annual IC Awareness Month campaign.  Hundreds of patients nominated and voted for doctors who they believe had treated them with kindness, respect and with excellent knowledge about IC. Dr. Evans patients raved about his medical care. Here are some of the nomination essays submitted on his behalf.

Dr. Evans is my hero. He saved my bladder when another urologist wanted to remove it. I travel 5 hours each way to see him but it is well worth the trip. He is the most compassionate nurturing Dr. I have ever been to and when I am with him I have his undivided attention!! I truly am so blessed to have found the best IC Dr. in the country and he is right hear in my home state !! My husband always drives me to the appts. & he jokes that I have a crush on Dr. Evans & I reply do you blame me look how much he has helped me when no one else could. I truly do not know what I would do without Dr. Robert Evans !!! I pray that he will win 2016 physician of the year because you just can’t find Drs of his caliber in this day in time !!! – Elizabeth

He’s been my Urologist for the past 13 years. He tried every treatment and trial to try to relieve my ic pain and urgency. In 2011 Dr. Evans and I made the difficult decision to remove my bladder and for him to make me an Indiana Pouch. I was in end stage ic at the age of 30. The surgery took a little longer than expected, but it was a success. I was in the hospital over Christmas and he was there to check on me as I needed blood transfusions. Dr. Evans goes out of his way to get to know his patients and to treat us to the best of his ability. I have a great team of doctors, but Dr. Evans has gone above and beyond the call of duty. I trust him with my life…..that’s saying a lot! – Stephanie

I saw many doctors prior to being referred to Dr Evans. My quality of life was terrible and I had far more bad days than good. He has given me my life back honestly. I do not know what I’d be living like it I hadn’t been sent to him. – Christina

Because he is so understanding and explains all the treatments then let’s you decide which one to try.  So you feel like you have some control over your own health treatment. Mostly because he’s so nice, understanding and patient. – Courtenay

He has been taking incredible care of my daughter for many years , I’m not sure where we would be if not for him, his care and his knowledge / resources re; IC and the treatments that have been available to her . He’s truly the kindest as well as the smartest Dr we’ve ever come across. I’m not sure where the IC community would be without this man, thank you. – Connie

Simply put because he’s the very best, has been treating me for almost 20 yrs. He is compassionate, passionate and never turns an IC patient away ! Due to his research, trials and his treatment , I’ve had access to everything that’s available, often before any other doctors have it on their radar. Most of all his patients love, value and trust him.  – Catherine

He always puts me at ease. Always listens, and does whatever needs to be done to make my life with IC that much easier! Knows his stuff! – Kara

He is an amazing doctor! He truly aims to improve your quality of life with IC. He is patient, he doesn’t get in a hurry. He takes time to listen to you and answer any questions you have. He throughly exlpains treatment options. He includes you in all aspects of treatment. – Donna

The best!!!!!!!! Kind, concerned and knowledgable. Dr. Evans has given me a chance to live a normal life….I don’t know where I would be without him!!! No one deserves this honor more than this wonderful man and Doctor! – Jennie

He takes his time with his patients. He listens to us and gives us options. I have seen him for 13 years. I dearly love this man and his dedication to IC. He has truly changed my life!!!! – Lisa

Dr. Evans is one of the few national specialists with a sizable population of pediatric IC patients. In 2016, he proposed a four step IC/BPS treatment protocol for children and teens that has given hope to countless parents struggling to find care.  This simple, logical plan focuses first on non-invasive self-help strategies least likely to cause adverse events. He also adapts conventional therapies for the age and size of the child. Few physicians in the world have his depth of experience!

Dr. Evans is an associate professor of urology at Wake Forest University, is board certified, and a fellow in the American College of Surgeons. An active researcher, Dr. Robert Evans has dedicated decades of his career to the treatment and research of interstitial cystitis, pelvic pain and pelvic floor dysfunction. His proactive patient care serves as a model for clinicians around the world. We are grateful for his advocacy and proudly present the 2016 IC MD of the Year.
