Perimenopause symptoms...not sure what to do

    Advertisement :
I am 46 now and have been having a long period (I'm on day 11 now - not heavy, but still going), having several hot flashes throughout the day, and a 4 day migraine.

I am going to see a new gyno at the end of the month. I am thinking he will offer either ablasion, estrogen or progesterone?, birth control pills or IUD, etc. I am TERRIFIED to do anything because of my IC is VERY hormonally related and therefore, I don't mess with my hormones. Despite the weird peri symptoms I'm having, my bladder has been fairly well behaved. I have an occasional flare for a day here and there, but if I behave and treat it, it calms down.

For those who are in perimenopause or who have gone through it, what did you do to help with the symptoms and did it affect your bladder one way or the other?

    Diagnosed 1/7/14 via cysto/hydro

    Current Treatment:
10 mg amitriptyline, DH Aloe Vera

    Used During Flares:
Uribel, extra DH Aloe Vera, Klonopin and Tramadol (as needed)

Practicing bladder training and stress control (hot baths, pelvic stretching)
Recently tried PT, do not appear to have PFD

Things that have not helped in the past:
    Oxybutynin, Vesicare, Pyridium, Myrbetriq, Vagifem

    Also have migraines and IBS

At the stage you are in I would do nothing if it was me, Hormons really bother me.

If you are going to go the hormon route I have used bio identical. I did well with theses. Progestin didn't bother me at all. The estrogen I started at a low dose and worked my way up. It did bother my bladder at bit to begin with

I would like to not do anything - that is my first choice. But is it ok to continue bleeding for a very long time?

You might want to check in to be sure it's perimenopause before you decide what to do about it. You might want to consider giving hormones a try temporarily to see if that will help you get through this time.

Re: Perimenopause symptoms...not sure what to do

Thanks, I THINK I have finally stopped bleeding on day 12. Hopefully, it won't start up again until I'm due. I will still keep my appt with my new gyno at the end of this month to discuss any options I might have. :-)
