    Diuretics?

    Advertisement :
Hi everyone! I haven't been on for awhile because overall IC is doing very well but I had a question about diuretics. I am thinking of taking some because everytime I ovulate and and my PMS week I get super bloated. I thought maybe it was a constipation issue but after a month figured out it was not. I thought it was linked to something in my diet but it doesn't seem to matter what I eat during that time the bloating happens and it really uncomfortable. I exercise regularly, drink a good amount of water, try to avoid salt and sugar etc etc. I tried tea and it helps but gets my bladder mad. Any tips???

    Re: Diuretics?

I had similar problems. Diuretics made my IC worse. What I recommend is menstrual cessation, which has been the only IC treatment I've needed for more than a decade now. If you can reduce your hormonal fluctuations, the PMS, bloating, and associated IC flare-ups will be under your control.

    Just sharing my personal experience.

Chronic conditions: IC, bipolar disorder, Lown-Ganong-Levine syndrome, Raynaud's disease, bile reflux, scoliosis
Current IC treatments: menstrual suppression, avoiding trigger beverages
Treatments for other conditions: Neurontin, Zyprexa, Marinol (as needed)

I was on birth control for ten+ years prior to IC but unfortunately now birth control pills and any synthetic hormones (and natural) are my biggest triggers. I wish so bad I could tolerate them because I'm so over PMS!!!!

    Re: Diuretics?

    Hi,

    Quick question.

I am having an episode of leg and foot swelling of unknown etiology,(no clots).
    .
My PCP has suggested using a diuretic to reduce the swelling but I'm a little hesitant given my IC, in terms of flaring my symptoms, including frequency.

I would appreciate any feed back/suggestions.

    Thanks very much,
    Laurie

    Re: Diuretics?

I take a low dose diuretic --- it seems to be the only way to control blood pressure --- it doesn't seem to bother my IC.
