    IC with a sick child

    Advertisement :
Trying to cope with IC is never easy, but when the stress goes up it gets very challenging.

My son has been sick for the last 3 months starting with a simple cold, bronchitis, asthma, and now we in that stage you are all so familiar with where you are desperately seeking answers and waiting to see the next doctor.

God is good and I know he will see us through this, but prayers for strength and wisdom during this time would be much appreciated

How old is your son? I have two sons, now adults, who are asthmatic and I understand how frightening it can be. The good thing is that they are both doing well now. My older one can do nearly everything; the younger lives in an air conditioned house, drives an air conditioned car to an air conditioned office --- not much during pollen season. We used to call the 4th of July Liberation Day because the pollen count goes down so rapidly after that.

I hope your little one is better soon.

Thanks for the prayers and encouragement Donna. It's been a stressful week but we seem to have a diagnosis now. POTS. Do you know of anyone on the IC network familiar with it?
We are kind of in recovery and research mode. My son is 10 years old and has missed about half of the semester. We will probably make some kind of arrangement with the school for his schooling. He's very smart, but pots causes terrible brain fog.

Do you mean Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome? If so, there seems to be a lot of information on the internet --- please do be careful in doing your research --- just as with IC, there are reliable sites and some not so good.

I'm so sorry to hear that your son is having such a difficult time of it. I know how scary health concerns for our children can be and stress is not a welcome visitor for those of us with IC. I'll keep you and your son in my prayers.

that is tough...i get mild POTS with my Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (is your son by chance hypermobile? more common with that). there is a lot of interesting research into it. treating my mast cells helps a ton with it, brain fog / dizziness pretty much disappeared. the rheumotologist said i also needed to exercise more, which i'd stopped as i felt so awful with the IC etc. but i started walking more building up slowly and it has helped...
so hang in there, there is a lot they can do!
and for you, calmness, meditation can help a lot with that stress...keep us updated!

Thanks for all the prayer! It's been an exhausting experience, but I've been able to keep my IC managed so far.
I think his symptoms were triggered by a combination of growing really fast, lingering virus, stress and exhaustion. His pain is pretty much under control now. Mainly just week now if he stays on top of his fluids and salt. We see a cardiologist in another week so I'm sure that will be helpful. I think exercise will help him too Anastasias
It's comforting to have people who understand IC praying for you.
