What are your favorite IC Coping Tips?

  • ice on bladder area for 2 hours
  • prayer and a big soft teddy
  • occupying my time with something i enjoy
  • avoiding acid food& drinks
  • heating pad, listen to my body when it needs rest, calling anunderstanding friend
  • Prozac
  • cornsilk tablets are unreal!!!!!
  • having something to do all day long
  • Trying to remember that other people (like the paralyzedChrisotpher Reeve) have severe challenges too.

  • The New My Body, My Diet
  • A cold can of soda and I don't mean drink it!
  • when it gets bad a heating pad placed over the stomach areareally helps
  • Do your best to remain optimistic through all the obstaclesand determined to get better.
  • Diet
  • wear loose fitting clothes around your waist, or cut the waistband
  • I remind myself that although it doesn't feel like i havecomplete control over ic and my body, that i have figured out mypattern. And for me, my flares do not last forever, although it mayfeel like that. I remind myself that i will get through the flare andhave some good days too.

  • Never giving up hope of it getting better

  • Eat TUMS when you first start to feel bladder irritation alongwith a lot of water to head off a flare

  • praying to God, using my weakness to help others in need andconstantly talking with my husband and friends about how I feel.
  • Drink a lot of water, azo-standard, Levbid, rest andrelaxation with a hug from my husband

  • Using just a little lidocaine to dull the nerve endings of theurethra before intercourse.

  • Take Elmiron at night before bed with 10mg Elavil and 10oz ofwater. Will calm bladder lining for the entire night and not have theurge to void

  • Go Home put on my jammies - lay down on the couch with bypersonal pillow and read a suspense book or beautiful designer homemagazine.
  • Listening to music by Charlotte Church, "Voice Of An Angel"
  • Following the food list in Dr.Sants' book- avoid aminos
  • knowing that i have had good days, and i will have more ofthem
  • i try not to worry about the fututre too much-- i take it oneday at a time
  • To remember during a flare up that it will pass eventually -this helps to decrease the anxiety and panic that comes along with thisdisease - I wish I had a better coping tip - like a cure!
  • prayer, giving it all to God. also coming to ICN so I'm notalone in my pain.
  • keep positive - if you believe you can get through it, evenwhen in severe pain, then you will overcome the challenge. Rarely everis something worthwhile easily achieved. Stay determined to gethealthy again. If you let it hold you back, then it certainly will.
