Traditional methods of treatment will be discussed; however a unique premise of evaluation and treatment strategies will be introduced with an emphasis on embryology, and neurological convergence, sensitization and referred pain patterns. The role of scars and the psychology of pain will be included to discuss their potential role in sensitization and perpetuation. The course will be in lecture laboratory format with the participants acting as both clinician and patient.

Course objectives:

Cognitive Domain:

  • Comprehend the concepts of embryological derivation, neurological convergence and sensitization
  • Integrate the previous concepts into the clinicians interpretation of the patient examination findings

Psychomotor Domain:

  • Complete efficiently an orthopedic evaluation of the patient with pelvic pain
  • Perform special tests and treatment techniques addressing pelvic pain

About The Instructor:

Peter PhilipPeter Philip graduated with honors from Quinnipiac University with a degree in orthopedic physical therapy in 1995. Having studied under and worked with the Country's current masters in the realm of physical therapy he has had the opportunity of combining their historical and experiential perspective with current research, independent studies and inquisitive reasoning.

The elusive question of "why?" our patients develop pelvic pain troubled Peter for years, and after copious research and deductive reasoning he has formulated a means of answering the question "why"?.. Why do our patients develop their urogenital pain and dysfunction?

Approaching pelvic pain from an orthopedic, differential diagnostic perspective, he has shed light as to the origin of our patient's pain phenomenon. Utilizing the concepts of convergence, centralization, sensitization and embryological derivation and the interactions of the central and peripheral nervous systems he has devised a means of eradicating pain that has otherwise been elusive.
