Elavil - Less Effective Over Time?
Do any of you know if one needs to keep increasing the dose of Elavil for it to stay effective? I've heard that is the case - and it's scary for obvious reasons.
Thanks.

Dawn...I have been on Elavil for 2 1/2 years and have not had to increase the dosage. Actually, I was able to reduce the original dosage of 50mg down to 25mg. about 2 years ago. It is still working for me at that amount.

elavil less effective over time
I needed to up my dose from 25 to 50 after a few years-it wasn't because of my bladder, it was my sleep problems from fibro.
I took a 6 month break from elavil and am on 25 now.

Elavil
I have been on Elavil for at least 15 years. Over the years I have increased and decreased the dose depending on what other medications I was taking or how I was feeling. 50 mgs seems to be the dose that I do best at.
Elavil has never taken away my pain (neither has anything else). What it does for me and has never stopped, is to help me sleep through the night without getting up many times to go to the bathroom. I have not had to increase it for this reason. It continues to help me sleep.
