My dosage was 50 mg at night until I was put on Trazadone a few months ago. Worked well for me also. 10 mg is a relatively low dosage, that where most docs start to gauge effectiveness or the presence of any untoward side effects.
Hugs,
Barb

I take Elavil for IC and VV. I started out at 10mg, which helped with the pain, but there was still some pain left. I then went up to 20mg and have been doing good except for some pain during and after sex. They just upped me to 25mg and said to go to 30mg if there's still pain. They said that once you get to a level with no pain, you stay at that dosage for 6 monthes before you start to try lowering it again.

I started out at 10mg in Sept, went up to 20mg in April, will be talking to my doctor about going up to 25 or 30mg. Food cravings started at 20mg, so will have to be careful about this, so I don't balloon...

I'm taking 25 mg and it works great for me. I usually sleep better because it helps me get through the night without having to get up to urinate. I haven't had an issue with food cravings. Sometimes it makes me a little groggy in the morning but it's better than having pain!

I just started 25mg at night and have noticed a huge difference. I started out with only half that amount and it didn't really do anything for me.
Good luck.

25 mg @ bedtime also. Uro started me on the 25 mg in April. Didn't start out at a lower dosage then work up like some. I guess all docs are different, as are the patients! I think it's best to follow whatever dosage the doctor starts you at and see if it helps!! I still have not adjusted to the side of effects of the Elavil (added to the other meds that I take). I sometimes have to skip the Elavil @ night (if I know I have an appt early the next day) and will replace it with Ultracet. I don't like pain, nor do I like the feeling of being a zombie. Still trying to figure out how to control pain and live somewhat a normal life!

25mg at bedtime for me, also. I was taking 50mg but have been able to reduce the doseage. If I try to go any lower, flares return. Needless to say, I think I will stay with the 25mg.

I was all the way up to 150 mg at one pt and my gyn said he will use dosages up to 200 mg if needed (!) I do know you have to taper up weekly (I usually add 25mgs a week)- definitely talk to your doc!

My Dr. Started me out on 50 mg at bedtime on August 16. I feel like a zombie in the mornings but after a little while I'm usually ok. He started me out on that mg because I was only sleeping about 2 hours a night...every night. I was an emotional wreck. I hurt constantly and was about to the point of wanting to end it all.
So far I have noticed a very slight easeing of pain in my bladder. I don't know if it's the Elavil or the Elmiron. Today I haven't taken a pain pill at all it has been to a tolerable level today. All I want to do is sleep though.
