Prosed DS ???????????????
ok --went and saw uro PA emergency and I had another bladder cocktail--novacaine-heparin and other stuff she measured and put in me to help with this dam* burning in the urethra--she then gave me a script for Prosed DS--I was taking pyridium plus and Elmiron--well now its off the pyridium plus and on PROSED DS--what is the difference ?? and what different will it do to me that pyridium plus didnt do???? I hate these flares--also there going to give me an MRI to see if I have some kind of DIVER--something or rather in the urethra and its only detected by MRI..any answers to my questions would be helpful. I am getting drowsey from the PROSED DS--took one about 1 hour ago--first time--God if this burning would just go away--I hate it thanks Cathy

hi
I dont know about the prosed but I do know the test you are going to get on urethra. I just had it. It is quite embarrassing but painless if you can handle a catheter. I had a pediatric catheter and had lidocane. It checks for small pockets on the urethra. It is like diverticulitis of the stomach only on your urethra. I had 2 very young male Dr.s and to stand and urinate in front of them with a bucket between my legs while they watch it on screen was very emabarrassing but harmless. Good luck,,,,

I think the test you mean is to detect diverticulum, which you can find in any dictionary so I won't repeat the definition here (it's long).
I've never taken the medication you mention so I can't help you there.

Cathy,
Prosed DS does the same thing that Pyridium does, only it turns your pee blue/green instead of orange. It does have a lot less side effects and has a tendency to irritate your bladder less than the Pyridium. The benefit is that you can take it more often that Pyridium, up to 4 times a day. My favorite thing about it, though, is that it's not as harsh on your bladder as the Pyridium. Pyridium can exacerabte my symptoms if I take it too much. The ingredients in the Prosed are different from the ones in Pyridium. It's newer and I like it a lot better. I've never been drowsy with it, though. Although, I rarely have side effects from medications. Nice, huh?? Let me know if this helps!!

it does help--from what I read--it kinda different than pyridium plus--has like lots of different ingredients than pyridium plus--I took one Friday and only one--and you know I pee'd blue-green for 3 days--its strong but I didnt get drowsey either like I did the pyridium plus--pyridium plus I am like a zombie--pyridium plus makes me feel "to good" almost like you wanna have a pyridium plus party with your friends on a friday night :-) --so I dont think that its a good drug for me--I dont like the feeling of "feeling to good" like its been 20 years since you felt this good --alters my mind to much--the doc did say that prosed-ds is not the same as pyridium plus--said it has many meds in it --and truthfully it is helping--I still say they need to do a lot more reserch on IC--they need to get the ball rolling more--this disease just stinks--hugs to all--Cathy

I'm glad that I could help!! I know that whenever I take a new drug, it always helps to get someone elses opinion on it. I love the Prosed. It's a lot better for me than the Pyridium. It's a nice alternative to being drugged up all day long... hehe Usually if I take the Prosed, I don't need as much of my Ultracet. Hope all is well!

I could not take Prosed. I had to switch back to Pyridum Plus.

Hi,
I haven't taken Prosed DS, but I have taken Prosed. It isn't the same as Pyridium - it works a different way and has different ingredients. For me, Prosed works a lot better, and Pyridium really doesn't work at all. But that's just me. I think everyone has their own situation and their own reaction to medication. My urologist said he has had better results with Prosed for people who are having also having urethral pain, if that helps any. Pyridium apparently more often tends to help with bladder-related pain.
If the Prosed DS is making you sleepy, and you don't want that, you could ask about trying the plain Prosed. I don't know what the difference is between the two medications, but maybe the DS has an antihistimine or muscle relaxant added?
I haven't had the MRI test you mentioned, but I want to wish you good luck with that.
Take care,
ErinBear

Ok Prosed is like pyridium(100 &200) the pyidium plus has a pain med in it. I like PPlus better but both work great for me. If my uro would part with some often enough to help.
I hope I helped.
