More Sensitive to Yeast.....?
Does IC make one more sensitive to noticing yeast infections ? I recall pre-IC sometimes i would not know i had a yeast infection, now it always feels so sensitive and i am buying OTC meds too too often - and yes they help. My doc has checked for for other infections.

for me I never had yeasts issues till my 2 years of pre diagnose and my never ending course of antibiotics! Since being diagnosed I have a hard time determining if I have a flare? A infection. or yeast? I always call my doctor and get in so I can be sure! Usually which ever one I thought was causing the havic isnot lol but Im learning !!!!

I don't know... but I do know that since my IC has become full blown I get more yeast infections too. I get them in the vagina, and in the mouth/throat (thrush), and even one time in the bladder itself!!!!!
Finally, my uro put me on a 7 day course of Diflucan back in April, to just wipe out all the yeast -- so far, I haven't had any probs since then!
You may want to discuss something like that with your doctor.
Also, I think Katrina on this site knows some good natural remedies for yeast as well... hopefully she'll see your post and clue you in.
Good luck

I don't know if having IC in and of itself makes us more prone to yeast, BUT many of us with IC have been on a lot of antibiotics and that can definitely make you more prone to yeast....

Current IC meds: Elmiron (since 2001), Levaquin (one pill after intercourse to prevent UTIs), Lexapro (since 2003 for depression & anxiety, but also helps my IC)
Past IC meds: Amitriptyline (Elavil), Hydroxyzine (Vistaril), Detrol LA (They all helped, but I was able to discontinue them.)
My IC story: http://www.ic-network.com/patientstories/kim.html It's very outdated now. I've been virtually symptom free and able to eat & drink whatever I'd like for several years now.

I don't know if it is IC or just that overall I am more aware of my body but I do think I notice or am bothered by that yeast infection earlier....early enough so that OTC stuff helps me theese days too...which I never would have believed before. Maybe it is just that after so many symptoms down there we are paying a lot of attention to what our bodies tell us about our bodies...especially anything near our bladder.
Just one possibility.
Take Care

I recently went to the gyno thinking I had a bacterial infection and it came out neg. She did say that I had some white discharge but it didn't smell. Anyways I have seen some white flakes in my urine could that be yeast? Just wondering. She said I might be getting a yeast infection. I have a yeast infectrion on my skin? That's what my pc doc said. Anyways just thought I'd chime in. Take care all - Chris

I have not had more vaginal yeast infections since i got IC but, i am showing evidence of yeast problems in the rest of my body ( I am looking into alternative treatments for that but not till I have some other tests taken care of). Once before I had IC I had a yeast infection and my gynocologist said that I am especially sensitive to yeast even a little makes my body go crazy. also my urine is ALWAYS cloudy and the uro said that is ok part of the IC ( I also frequently have A LOT of blood in mu urine but NEVER any infection wierd but true). i am one of the wierd ones i think I have only had one true UTI my whole life and only one vaginal yeast infection ?
Good luck,

Ahhh, thanks for the tips. I see my doctor about once a month. He says i never have any infection. Sometimes i feel so crazy, i know i am not....I just deal with these things one day at a time. He said i had a urethral stricture and IC. I asked how could i have a stricture and where did it come from? He said sometimes from infections yet i have no infections. Come September 1st I will have my 7th cystoscopy and my 4th dilitation.....I dont look forward to September at all..... .
Yes i notice cloudy urine sometimes - i just flush it away these days..... Nothing ever shows in a culture, except blood - how normal for me...... Seems to get better within a few days.
My poor sister is tired of my complaining - LOL I am tired on my complaining....Oh well, so each day goes....:dogrun:
