Buspar and Antidepressants for IC
Hi everyone,
I have 2 questions. First, has anyone taken Buspar for anxiety and did it help? I am currently taking Klonopin, but would prefer to take something that was not addictive. Second, does anyone who takes an antidepressant (with the exception of Elavil) find that it also helps their IC symptoms? I know Elavil and the other tricyclics are proven treatments for IC, but I was wondering if other antidepressants like Lexapro, Paxil etc. helped IC symptoms.

I have taken Buspar for anxiety prescribed to me for a stressful time in my life by my Gyno. I was unable to continue taking it. It made me very dizzy to the point that I didnt like it. I guess thats a side effect that goes away in time. I was just unable to continue to use it to let the side effects wear off. I am currently taking Sarafem which was also prescribed to me for PMDD( pre mentsral dysphoric disorder) basically really bad PMS. ahhaha anyway I havent seen it help with any of my IC symptoms. It has helped me not bew so moody and on edge without weight gain. Hope that helps and good luck...

I took Buspar back in 1991 and it did help with anxiety. I didn't have IC back then (or it hadn't shown itself yet) so I don't know how it affects the bladder.
I am on Lexapro now for anxiety and depression --- it has helped with that and with my bladder.

Diagnosed August 2001
Current IC meds: Elmiron (since 2001), Levaquin (one pill after intercourse to prevent UTIs), Lexapro (since 2003 for depression & anxiety, but also helps my IC)
Past IC meds: Amitriptyline (Elavil), Hydroxyzine (Vistaril), Detrol LA (They all helped, but I was able to discontinue them.)

I took Buspar for four months, just did not like the way I felt on it. I was tired, felt like I was in a tunnel, dizzy and felt depressed on it. Tried different strengths but none made a difference in the side effects. I know of someone else that only got dizzy from it, but for her, that went away. Remember, everyone responds differently to meds.  Take care!!

PRozac for IC
I have been taking 10 mill (low dose) Prozac for control of pelvic nerve stimulation for 6 years, and can vouch for it - Without the prozac that nerve was always at high whine frequency. It did also stimulate some food cravings, which if I'd known at the time I could have controlled. (found out by doing web research, like we all do now). It did not affect the bladder pain - I did an in-office cystocopy with a lidocaine wash for that.
