Yeast, antibiotic, thrush ?'s

So thrush is essentially a yeast infection in the mouth, right? I'm not very familiar w/ this.

Is is possible to get like a yeast infection in the throat?

I've been taking preventative antibiotics (after sex to prevent UTI). I've noticed that after taking these I sometimes get a sore throat (just at the top of my throat near tonsils, feels scratchy and hard to swallow). Antibiotics shouldn't cause a sore throat, right? So I'm wondering if it's some other connection like yeast. Any ideas?

It could be yeast --- you may want to have a throat culture done. It's not bad --- they just barely touch your throat with a swab, then culture it.

Warm hugs,
Donna

I'll try to get into the Drs office for a culture. It actually would make alot of sense if it's thrush in the throat. Cuz I have that bumpy cottage cheese look going on back in there.

Does anyone know if L. Acidophilus helps? I know it helps for vaginal yeast. I eat alot of yogurt. I also have pills. Maybe I'll try taking some today. Any other suggestions?

I have Diflucan, BUT we are currently trying to conceive and I"m not supposed to take Diflucan. None of my Dr's have suggested any other options for yeast issues... Just not to take diflucan (they all know I'm doing prev antibiotics so this was a big concern that I discussed with all three docs prior to trying to get preg).

I don't know a lot...

but perhaps ask about Nystatin....that seems to be something people use to treat yeast/thrush, but I have no idea if its safe if you're trying to get pregnant...

You could try Nystatin, although the conception part, I'm not sure of. I've done the Nystatin stuff... it's not fun. It's solution you have to use 3 or 4 times a day-- you swish it around, gargle, and then swallow. And it can take a few weeks of this nonsense to work...

Discuss your options with your doctor. Good luck
