Anyone using a different anti-histamine?

Hi gals,
Is anyone on a different anti-histamine beside hydroxyzine (atarax)? My doc may be suggesting benadryl and I was wondering why that one over atarax?
Cath

I'm guessing because it's over the counter & thus easy to try. I take Benadryl for my allergies. Unfortunately, it doesn't help my IC. At least it doesn't hurt it either!

Hi there,
I have had success for a little over a year with Clariitin. I am not sure why it stopped working but I thought about trying it again. Good luck.

Benadryl Help

I didn't realize it until I read the posts here, but I started taking Tylenol PM a couple months ago to help me sleep. It has benadryl in it. I also take an antidepressant for sleep, though it irritates the heck out of my bladder, so I"ve been cutting them in half. Well, I'm so pain-free right now, I increased the antidepressant so I can sleep more, and I'm realizing that the benadryl is the only thing I'm doing differently. It must be helping my bladder. So glad I found this message board!

I take Allegra without any problems. My allergy specialist doesn't recommend Benadryl for me because 1 pill makes me light headed, spastic and jerkey while 2 pills knocks me out completely.

I use allegra. It's been a lifesaver for me and at least for now, keeps me in remission. To be honest, I discovered it by accident--I was taking it for allergies last fall and it put me in remission then. When I had a flare this spring due to a UTI, I remembered the allegra, went back on it and a week later I was back to feeling normal again.

I should also add that I tried the hydroxyzine and it just didn't work well with my body. I had headaches and nightmares.
