Does it help w/ the symptoms at all. I asked Dr for something for my nerves and he gives me this Lorazepam .05 mg 2 x day. It really does nothing, even people over 60 get more than that...and people my age get up to 3-4mg per day. I just need to relax a bit, not get knocked out or anything, just to get the IC off my minds 24/7. That is it...

If the dosage you were given isn't doing the job, I think you should give your doctor a call and ask about a change.

Warm hugs,

I've been taking Prozac for about 2 1/2 yrs. I take 20 mgs(?) a day & it works great for me. I think antidepressants help alot of ICer's. If Prozac works for you thats great. I tried Zoloft & another one first & they didn't agree with me. Hugs, Kathi

Thanks for this feedback. It is very encouraging. I wish I wasn't such a big chicken when it comes to meds!

Hope.....

You are not a big chicken for being scared of medication, more like a wise owl. Medication is a wonderful thing, but it can also be a scary thing when you have a bad reaction to it. I think the less medication you can get away with the better you are. For me, medication seems to bring on flairs. I take only what I have to take. I am a two shot a day Diabetic, have been all my life and I am also bi-polar manic depressive and they had me so drugged up for so long I felt like I was in a fog. Now all I take is 3 Elmiron pills a day and a few Urimax when I have a diagnostic procedure. Oh and my must have Xanax. My docotor will not prescribe any pain medication for me and I suppose that is a good thing, but too me it's not a good thing. I think doctors are too quick to dole out the antidepressent medications. To me it is almost like saying it's all in my head. I was taking the following medications up until about a month ago

Zoloft
Welbutrin
Remeron
Risperadal
Buspar
Lorazapam
Xanax

all for depression and anxiety

Alltace
Ziac

for high blood pressure

2 shots of Insulin a day for diabetes

Dicyclofecnec for joint aches and arthritis

Detrol La
Elmiron
uristat
Urimax

all for my IC

and

Albuterol and some kind of inhaled steroid for allergies.

And there were the antibiotics, Cipro, Levaquin, Augmenten and amoxicillian.

All this at one time.
I thought I was losing my mind.

I said enough is enough and weaned myself off of everything but the Elmiron, the Xanax and the Urimax. I still pop my high blood pressure pills if it starts going up. Once off of the antidepressants I didn't feel depressed anymore.

I really can't see how all this medication can be good for the bladder and now that I am off of it I can see a difference.

I actually took 3 Preliefs today and had two beers. A first for me in a long time and so far, except for a few extra trips to the potty I feel very relaxed and mostly pain free. Could pay the price tomorrow, though.

I hope you find a combo that works for you without it having to be an overload.

Feel better soon.
Carol
