Post Neurontin?Gabapentin

I have a question, don't know if this is in the right place or not, but here goes. I am taking Neurontin, Now is Gabapentin the generic of Neurontin? The Neurontin is very expensive and I don't know is the Gabapentin a lot cheaper or not.
Also if I just stop taking this will something go wrong with me, or will I just have to take more oral pain medications?
Thanks for your help.
I hope this question helps others who are taking it.
Sue hi

Hi Sue hi

I don't see why you can't take the Gabapentin--it is just the generic brand. My insurance covers all but 10 bucks so I don't know about price.

As for not taking it anymore, my doctor told me I'd have to be weaned off of it. I think, but I'm not sure, it raises your levels for risk of a seizure, that's why the wean you off, and also to avoid withdrawal symptoms. That's what the doc told me. So be careful!

Good luck,
Jess

Please talk to you dr and find out how he/she wants you go wean from the drug. I've tried going off of it quite a few times but my pain level rises so much that I've quit trying....I'll probably be on the drug until a better one comes along....

wishing you the very best~
