Does Hydroxyzine help with frequency?
Just wonder Hydroxyzine helps more with the pain or urinary frequency?
Any positive results?
Thanks, Peiti.

For me, hydroxyzine helped with everything. It slowly but steadily reduced the irritation and inflammation in my bladder .. such that my flares reduced, my pain reduced, etc. etc. But, it is not a pain medication and shouldn't take more on a given day if you're in more pain. It's more of a long term strategy... where a little bit each day, over the long run, can help reduce symptoms. I'm really glad that I tried it... and I noticed, right away, that it helped me sleep better... but it took about 3 months to really see a major daily improvement in my IC symptoms.

Hydroxyzine is also my main treatment along with the diet. Pain was not my main problem, frequency was. That being said, what I did have for pain has really been reduced and the frequency is also been reduced. I sleep so much better at night also. I am so glad I have it for my treatment.

Thanks for your reply. How much do you take to reach the result?

I take 25 mg every night. For me it only helps with the frequency but it works very well. As Jill said, it does take a little bit of time to become effective and for you to notice improvements.
In October, I misunderstood my doctor and thought I was supposed to hold the hydroxyzine after a surgery. My frequency increased a lot and I went into my post-op thinking it was from the surgery. He asked if I was taking the hydroxyzine and we discovered my misunderstanding. I restarted it and my frequency quickly went right back down to 12-16. I will not stop it again!!
I do get really drowsy with it, but it helps me sleep a little better at night!! Now keep in mind that I am extra super sensitive to meds... But when I first started taking it, I was actually so drowsy that I slurred my words for several days. The morning after the first dose, the roof guy came out and I absolutley could not get the words out to tell him where the leak was. I finally just motioned him to follow me and just pointed to the area. I had to hold onto the walls to keep my balance, it was so embarrassing. I am sure he thought I was high on drugs...Hee, Hee, I guess I sorta was!! I couldn't drive for two weeks!! But then I adjusted to it and the effects now wear off after an hour or so in the morning. All in all, I am sold on hydroxyzine!!
For those of you who have reached remission, do you still take hydroxyzine? Or were your able to wean off it? Just curious!!
Hugs,
