No End In Sight
3 weeks ago my IC went into overdrive and my bladder is still holding me hostage. I was feeling a little better earlier this week but now I am back in the "can't sleep, gotta go right now/sit down on the toilet pee a few drops, burning soooooo bad I can't take it anymore mode". I am going back to the Uro on Tuesday to see if my Uti has cleared up. I am so tired of this crap. My flares normally don't last this long. I was looking forward to going out of town this weekend but a long car ride is out of the question right now. I am trying to stay positive but this disease is turning me into a hermit. I would just like to have a normal bladder once again. I am hoping and praying that some day they will find a cure for this awful disease.

It sounds very much like you could have infection. I suggest you either go to an urgent care center or ER --- if you do have infection, by Tuesday it could be worse.
If you don't feel you can go in, there are home test kits available --- they aren't 100% accurate, but can usually tell you if you have infection. The one I use is First Response --- I like it because if there's infection there, it foams --- you don't have to match colors to find out if it's positive.
Warm healing thoughts,
Donna

Texashoney,
I hope you feel better soon. I agree with Donna, it does sound like it could be a UTI. Take care of yourself.

You may have an infection indeed, but I know I have the same symptoms even when I don't have infection. Best to get it checked though. Right now I am flaring and just drops of burning pee coming out. Like fire.
Hope you feel better soon. (and me too!).
Hugs,

I was diagnosed with a UTI 2 weeks ago
I was diagnosed with a UTI 2 weeks ago and have been taking Cipro for it. I am taking Pyridium and and Vicoden for pain.I am going back to the uro Tuesday for a follow up. I am not sure I can wait that long. (Not a good time for a 3-day weekend) I want to thank all of you for your concern.

Have you tried telephoning your doctor? If he's not available this weekend, there should be someone on call for him. Even though you just finished a round of antibiotics, you could have another infection. If your pain is severe, I do think you need attention today.
Sending an encouraging hug,
Donna

I agree with Donna you may need another antibiodic. I too have an infection now and unfortunately on top of my IC I get recurring UTI's. Last year I had over 15 culture doccumented infections and so my dr. put me on a low dose antibiodic to prevent them during my flare season when I was getting instilations. I seem to have infections mostly during the allergy season which as you know in TX is a good half a year at least. I too see a Dr. in FT. Worth and he still insists on taking a culture each time I think I've got an infection. I have learned that on the dip test I must look for nitrites and leukecites because if I just look at a single indicator I will always have an infection which isn't the case. ER dr. always think that because there is microscopic blood present on the dip that it indicates an infection but I will always show blood because of my cracked and bleeding bladder. I now know usually within 8 hours of getting an infection and my nurse trusts my judgement because in the last year and a half I've never been wrong. They still want me to come in for a culture which is a pain but they give me an antibiodic immediately. Because I've been on antibiodics so much I have become resistent to some like Macrobid and Bactrim which is why they always want to do a culture. I'm sure your dr. wants to check your culture again to make sure it's really gone. It sounds like you may have another UTI or one that was resistent to the Cipro. I'm running out of anibiodics that will work but right now I'm on levequin for a UTI. I will go on a low dose of it when my infection is gone to prevent any others until after my wedding and then I will try to get off of it so I don't become resistent to it as well.
I know that while my IC got better in the late spring in the last few weeks I have flared a bit and my dr. said it had been a bad time for many patients in our area because of allergies. It's been a mild winter so I think that's causing this allergy season to last longer. I know for me there is a direct correlation in the allergy season and my IC symptoms. I hope your dr. can help you but I agree you should call the after hours immediately so he can change your RX if you need to. I learned the hard way not to ignore those burning symptoms because they can end up infecting your kidneys and then it takes a lot longer to get rid of it. Are you running a fever? That could also be an indicator of a resistent infection.
You may want to ask your dr. for Pyridium pluss which is what works for me when the pyridium isn't enough. I also use topical lidcaine jelly on a q-tip to help numb the burning some. I hope you get some releif soon. I'm sorry it's so bad now.

UTI UPDATE
I went to ER Sunday night and they switched me to levequin and now I am feeling somewhat better but now. I am still having a problem with frequency but I am optimistic that the worst is over.

Texas Honey,
I'm glad that you went to the ER and that they switched your anitbiodic. Levequin always seems to work for me to if one of the others doesn't cut it. My dr. quit trying to give me anything else because he had to switch me so often in order to get rid of the infection. I get a little concerned because Leveguin has always been my ace in the hole but if I become tollerant to it I don't know what he'll do. I've exhausted most of the other antibiodics which are not usually effective on my UTI's.
The frequency may take a bit longer to clear up but the pyridium will help that some because it will reduce the spasms. My IC always flares after an infection which can cause my frequency/urgency and bladder burn to start up again and last longer than the UTI.
I'm glad that you're starting to feel better! Hopefully you will continue improving.
Rachel

I had this same problem when I was first diagnosed late March. I was on Augmentin during the cysto/hydro. I still developed an infection. Went on Cipro. It didn't clear up. After another culture, I was put on Macrobid. It didn't cut it. Still another culture and doxyciclyine did the trick. It took me almost 7 weeks to get rid of this stubborn UTI. Hang in there, it just takes some tiime and patience.

Update
Texas Honey,
Did you get in to see your dr. today? I thought and prayed for you all weekend. Glad you went to er and got new meds. That's taking care of yourself.
Let us know what dr. says and have you tried squirt bottle while urinating? that can be a big help. also laying down with ice in the vaginal area helps a lot.
Keep us posted,
Julie :toosh:
