Infection while on antibiotic

Anyone get an infectin while on antibiotic? Doc thinks I may have infection because of high nitrate level in urine but when realized on Cipro was unsure. Kinda worried now... should find out soon if there is an infection...did a culture...show if I do will I be on two antibiotics at once....one for the infection...one for my Pouchitis?

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks

I have had an infection while on an antibiotic. Not all bacteria are sensitive to the antibiotic you are taking. I had the c/h done 2 months ago. I was on Augmentin during the procedure. I tested positive for a UTI a few days later while still on Augmentin. After another urince culture, I was put on Cipro. That didn't work either. Then Macrobid. Didn't help. Finally they tried Doxycicline and that one did the trick. Took me almost 5 weeks. I tested a week after and developed a diff. strain of bacteria. I was given amoxicillin. Just cleared this week of UTI. took a long time, but it takes patience and persistence. Feel better. liz

Liz is right. It's possible to be infected with an organism that is resistant to a particular antibiotic.

I too hope you feel better soon.

Sending gentle hugs,
Donna

hi Katrina, I too have a high nitrate count in my urine, but never seem to culture positive for a UTI. Had a broth culture done last week to see what it comes back with....

That is what I was told....doc assumed infection because of high nitrate....I said really I am on antibiotic treatment....he rethought it and did a culture....no infection found.

Anyone know why or how urine gets high in nitrate without infection?

I have high nitrate water at my house but never drink it or eat anything with it...

does it just happen with IC?

Sometimes I no nothing!
