Difference between Atarax and Benadryl?
What's the difference between Atarax and Benadryl?
Does Atarax cause side effects like...constipation?

Um, let's see...
Atarax = hydroxyzine
Benadryl = diphenhydramine
They are both antihistamines. They both make can make you sleepy.
However, I believe Atarax (hydroxyzine) is thought to have a bit more of an anti-anxiety, muscle relaxant effect in addition to the antihistamine properties. I believe this is why sometimes it's chosen instead of Benadryl for IC... so hopefully it will treat the mast cell component and maybe even help a little with spasms.
I've been taking Atarax at night for a month now and haven't noticed any constipation... but maybe in some people. I just don't know...maybe someone else can answer that part?

Thank you for replying to my post. I'm a little "gun-shy" when trying a new medication. I plan on taking Atarax 10 mg tonight. Thanks agian. This board is wonderful.
