Post Need help with disability issues

Hello I recently had to leave my job of 17yrs for the second time. First time was due to IC too, but I found out for sure what I had after returning to work. In Aug. 2003 I finally knew what I had..since then I have been trying different medications. My doctor really felt that the overwheming stress of my job, was a big factor in his ability to treat my condition. I went out on medical on 1-9 to have surgery on a hernia. I have been flaring ever since. I decided not to return to work. I will be filing
for long term disability. I just needed some guidance in this matter...If you can help please let me know.

dbays,
I do not know if all states are the same but in Mich. you have to be out of work for 6 months before you can apply. Then after you apply they gather all your information and pull your doctors records to see if you are elgible, then it takes up to 60 (maybe 90)days to be approved or denied.
sendy you hugs hope and prayers

Dbays: Does your employer have salary insurance and or long term disability coverage? That can get you through while you wait out social security. I would check your benefits department first, most have at least long term disability. Second, as far as social security goes, you can't apply for SS unless you've been off work for 6mos and you're looking at at least a year or more that you'll be unable to work (and, uh, it takes forever to process...I'm waiting now) your job's disability company generally starts getting antsy after the 6 month point to have you start applying. My social security benifits will only cover half my pay, so the long term disability will have to pick up the other half. It's really frustrasting and makes you want to pull your hair out but worth it in the end! Just keep at it and don't let any of the beaurocrats who say "isn't it just a bladder infection" intimidate you. (Yes..I've been arguing that one with my benefit consultant through work.) would like to smack her but I calmly promised her some material to peruse and faxed her some stuff from this organization.

Good luck to you!!!
