atarex versus vistaril

I'm confused what is the difference between atarex and visteral. I went to my back / pain specialist today and he assumed I was on atarex, which I only take a night, and told me to start taking it during the day as well It can be great for helping frequency??? Does it really do this? When I got home I realized I actually have been taking visteral at night. Does it make a differece? All I know is i still wake up in the morning, every monring in pain, which he found shocking!! So does that mean atarex works better

Atarax and Vistaril are brand names for the anti-histamine Hydroxyzine. Generics don't have quite the same regulations as non-generics, and they can vary, so it is possible--although not very likely--that your system would react more positively to a generic from one manufacturer than another.

Most IC sufferers need more than just an anti-histamine to relieve symptoms, but some find hydroxyzine helpful. It is often used in combination with Elmiron.

Hi Mouse,

My understanding is that Vistaril has less side effects sometimes. I've heard that some who are very med sensitive do better on Vistaril than Atarax....Also, my daughter is on Atarax for IC and it has helped her frequency, but I don't think for her pain. That's just her experience, but I thought I'd share.
