I almost always flare badly after using antibiotics (and during even though its helping at the same time). I always keep some Diflucan (Fluconazole) at home and take (1) 150mg one day and then take another (1) 150mg the following day to knock out any yeast because often times that is why I flare after using an antibiotic.

I also flare badly anytime my period is about to come on and antibiotics are notorious for throwing off your cycle and usually cause spotting in some people which also translates to a flare (it can make your period come on early sometimes too).

Hope you feel better soon.

Sometimes antibiotics actually cause a reduction in my IC symptoms, but a major increase in vulvadynia issues (pain, redness), so you never know.

My severe IC symptoms began while I was on a round of Levaquin for a sinus infection. By day four I couldn't figure out what was going on! I've heard that a good antibiotic for ICer's is Macrobid. I'll have the doc prescribe that next time.

I cannot tolerate Macrobid. It really doesn't like me and its a Sulfa relative and I am allergic to Sulfa, so it bothers me a great deal. Cipro makes me feel awful, but it gets rid of a UTI quickly and efficiently without having to take more than a few doses really. I had to take one today because I began flaring yesterday so much so that I thought something was up. I have had clear test strips for a while now, but sure enough, it was positive for a UTI. I had a feeling. Every time I get an extra bad flare, it always seems to be a UTI so it makes me wonder how many of us are actually having UTI's on top of our IC and just assuming its a bad IC flare. Glad I keep test strips on hand. Saves me a trip to the doctors and I have a bottle of Cipro on hand since it kills everything. Can't wait till this kicks in because its been painful now for almost two days. Antiobioics throw my period off so that will be fun and of course i will have to take a Diflucan or two once I am done for yeast.

What I would not give for a new bladder.

Be sure to put your bacteria...the good back in balance whenever you take an antibiotic...after that some are hard on the bladder while others may make you feel better.

http://ic-network.com/forum/showthread.php?t=21385 antibiotics poll that poll although quite old may help give you a clue on commonly flare causing antibiotics.
Anytime you are sick your immune system does some things to help fight the illness...sometimes it is the change that bother us.

Either way, I hope you feel better soon!!
