Question Taking Endep/Elavil long term, how long is too long?

I had been taking Endep 10mg/day(same as Elavil) for around 7 months. It did help my IC symptoms immensely, however some side affects, constipation and morning drowsiness, were a little bothersome and my doctor felt it would be best to try some other medication. He felt Endep was not something I could continue to take long term. Because I would have to keep increasing the dose as my body got used to it.

He tried me on a couple of other medications Zoloft and Lexapro, both of which gave me terrible side affects anxiety symptoms from the 1st dose . I had to stop taking them. Now I have started myself back on Endep, I feel back to normal.

My question for you out there taking this medication is how long have you been taking it for ? and how long do you think it is safe to take it?

I would appreciate any feedback.
