tomato free ketchup

Here's my recipe for nomato ketchup:

2c nomato sauce http://www.ic-network.com/forum/showthread.php?t=60463
1/2 c corn syrup
1/2 c raw sugar
1 tsp salt
2 heaping tsp allspice
1 garlic clove crushed
3T onion finally chopped
2 tsp lemon oil flavoring
vegetable oil

Saute onion and garlic in a little vegetable oil until translucent. Add remaining ingredients. Cook on low heat for about 1/2 an hour, stirring occasionally so doesn't stick, until mixture thickens and darkens. Puree in blender, pour into containers and keep in fridge.

You haven't noticed a problem with the lemon oil flavoring? What brand do you buy?

Hi baaaby11,
The lemon oil flavoring I'm referring to is just lemon extract but I use that reference because it's so pure (not made chemically) and is alcohol free. And no it doesn't seem to bother me. It is on the maybe try list but again everybody is different and it may not work for you. Since the main source of citric acid is in the juice and not the peel, I was willing to try it. The brand I use is by Frontier.
