Zoloft/Elavil cocktail problems
I'm so frustrated right now. I had been on Elavil previously to fight my fibro chronic pain and it wasn't the best but it helped relieve a lot of the pain. However, i still had anxiety issues and so my doctor just prescribed me Zoloft just this past Monday.
I've been taking the Zoloft (along with the Elavil) for a few days now and it feels like I'm retaining urine. Like, it feels like I REALLY have to go pee but when I do actually urinate not that much comes out and I still feel like i have to pee. I'm also quite constipated which is another problem.
I just don't know what to do b/c I'll be starting a new job soon and I'm going to be uncomfortable. The Zoloft also seems to be counteracting the Elavil and making my physical pain worse.
*sigh* I just can't win. And it's the 4th of July and my 23 year old self is sitting here along while all my peers are going out to get drunk tonight. Wish I could.

Hi there,
Sounds like a conversation with your doctor &/or pharmacist is in order. Perhaps dosages can be adjusted or there is a better option for you. A soluble fiber supplement for the constipation could help too. I hope your doctor can help.
Getting drunk on 4th of July - not such a great idea for anybody... Just leads to a disagreeable start to the 5th of July. Is there something you can do tonight that would be enjoyable? To kind of make the best of it? I'll be putting on a favorite movie & polishing my toenails. Not terribly exciting, but no one I know is doing anything, & I was too lazy to plan... So there you have it!
I hope you feel better soon,

This week's favorite one-liner:
"Incontinence Hotline...Can you hold, please?"
New second favorite:
A school teacher was arrested at the airport for trying to go through security with a slide rule & a calculator. He was charged with carrying weapons of math instruction."
Adding a third because I'm just so darn easily amused...
"Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups"
Above funny things are from the "Prairie Home Companion--Pretty Good Joke Book", which I pull out & read when I've had a bad day & really need a laugh...
Current treatments:
-IC diet
-Elavil 20mg at night
-Ditropan 5mg at night
-Continuous use birth control pills (4-5 periods/year)
-Heparin/Marcaine/Sodium Bicarb home instills every night & sometimes in the morning also
-Pyridium if needed, usually once a week or so
-1 Darvocet at bedtime,
-Flexeril 10mg at bedtime
-Dye Free Benadryl for allergies occasionally
-Pelvic floor & myofascial release (external only) physical therapy for 8 weeks, then home exercise program...
-Managing stress
-Fur therapy: Hugging the cat!

Yep, I'm gonna probably give it another week and then give my doctor a call if things don't get better. I know that sometimes things get worse before they get better and the body has to adjust.
Yeah, I don't really like getting drunk either but it's still nice to have a drink here and there. It's not too bad here alone tonight though. I can see a lot of fireworks from my house.
Thanks for your concern.

Update:
I'd just like to say that my bladder has gotten better and it doesn't feel like I'm retaining urine any longer, thank GOD! I guess my body just needed time to adjust.
