cold
Hi,
I have a head cold right now and was wondering what is the best medicine to use.
I take Atarax at bedtime but this is just a seasonal thing.
I noticed that pseudoephedrine was not good for us ICers.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
CeeCee

Before you take anything other than an aspirin, you really should check with your doctor if you re taking any medications.
My doctor suggested I take chlorpheniramine maleate when I catch cold. It's compatible with the meds I take full time.
Warm hugs,
Donna

I had a cold from Christmas until a week ago. My doctor had put me on 2 rounds of anitibiotics that didn't help. My cousin works for a pharmacist & she asked him what I could take & he said Echinacea.

colds
The best thing that I can take when I have a cold is Benedryl of course being from Arkansas I buy the cheaper brand of (Dyphenhydramine Hydrochloride ) @ Walmart.
It is all the same thing, just make sure that is the only thing in it, for the pain I usually end up using one of my prescribed meds that I know will not flair my IC.
It has worked a lot better actually than before when I used to take the Psedoephedrine ( that crap makes me spacy and
weird(er)!
I have not had a problem with the Guiefenisin do not know if I spelled it correctly here's phonics( g why a fen a sin) it is an expectorant, it really aides in helping get all that green crap out!
Hope you are feeling better!
Good Call stay away from the Pseudo, it kicks my flairs into the outer realms of space, it get;s ugly really fast!
Much love and concern,
JessicinArkansa

Uck....jessica...If you have green gunk coming out, you have more than a cold...You should prob get a doc to look at you, either for sinus or bronchitis. I've had enough of both to know that as long whatever is coming out is clear, I'm ok...once it starts to turn yellow, I start to really watch it...Green...BAD NEWS!!!!!!
Bye, bye...good luck

Very true... if your nasal or bronchial secretions turn either yellow or green, it's time for the doctor. This indicates the presence of bacteria in your sinuses or lungs, and you may need to take some antibiotics to help clear it up. Generally, as long as your secretions are clear to whitish, you're ok... you've just got a virus, which abx aren't going to help anyway.

You can see my IC story at http://www.ic-network.com/patientstories/jennifer.html -- it's a little out of date these days, but you'll get the idea!
I am a doctor, but I am the Ph.D. kind, not the M.D. kind. Thus, I am not a medical authority nor do I offer definitive medical advice. I can only explain the science behind many medical issues, and in all cases, I strongly encourage you to discuss your medical treatment with your personal medical care provider. Only they can, and should, give medical recommendations to you.

Thanks for all of the replies. I went to the dr. on Wednesday and he gave me a steroid shot along with two different nasal sprays.
I felt better yesterday but today actually feel worse.
My nasal discharge is very green and I guess it's time for the antibiotics. I just hate having to go back to the dr. And it may be that I need to give the shot a little more time to work. Unfortunately my bladder has not been very tolerate with this course either.
I know this was caused by seasonal allergies. But I'm so happy spring is finally here!!!!
