Interstim users
Hello
To those of you with the Interstim implant do any of you have problems with the implant setting off EVERY single security alarm! I never ever did before and in the last month no matter where I go(which isn't many places) it sets off the alarms. I asked my dr and he said he never heard of it happening months down the road.
The only suggestion they told me was that the stores set the security higher during the holidays to prevent stealing.
Anyone have any thoughts?
Thank you!!

I havnt had mine long but so far I havnt set one off. Ive only been a couple of places that had security systems though. Ive heard of security systems changing settings before. I hope you figure it out soon that must be really irritating. Good Luck!

I set off all metal detectors, but only a few store security systems. There is one CVS by my workplace where I cause a ruckus every time I exit the store
Your doc may be right - they may have changed the settings on their systems for the holidays.
Have you tried briefly turning off your implant just before going through the security system, and then flipping it back on after you are in/out of the store? Some systems pick up the pulsing of your implant rather than the implant itself, so turning it off briefly will prevent that type of system from going off.

Thanks Jen. I have tried turning the unit off. The unit really doesn't do me any good so I can leave it off if I wish. The alarms always buzz. I am stuck home in bed most days so luckily I don't have to deal with it too much but when I do go out it is so embarassing!!

Hmm.... okay.... maybe it really is the systems being on "high alert"!!
I haven't really been shopping in stores much, since I do the bulk of my holiday shopping online, but I just might go out and give a few systems a whirl to see if that is the case here too! I do know the Walgreens near my home, the CVS near my home instead of the one near work, and the grocery stores are fine with my Stim even now... but maybe some mall stores would be a bit more sensitive.

Thanks Jen...my pharmacy is Walgreens and they are the worst. I also have gone to CVS and they also beep everytime. Walgreens knows me well already so I walk in the alarms go and I leave and the alarms go but at least they know it is just me it's the customers that do the looking....you know!
Have fun giving it a try at the stores.....can't tell you the last time I have gone to an actual mall...boy I miss those days!!

alarms still going off
Well the alarms continue to go off at every store no matter what I have tried. I can't tell you how embarassing this is. I tried turning it off and no matter what I try it beeps. Normally I can explain to the stores why but many will say well implants never set it off before. I have talked to the reps and they said they had issues with some of the units. Lucky me. I guess as long as I am stuck in my house I can deal with it besides the pharmacy.
Any way my dr thought it would get better after the holidays...no luck. I could just as well take the unit out like my first one. We will see what happens I guess.

Some alarm systems are strange. When I was still working I had a parking card that charged my parking to my salary and there were two stores in town that alarmed if I had the card in my purse. It was embarassing.
