Antidepresants/Elavil

My md prescribed elavil (i take the generic) to help me sleep but the meds made me feel crazy after about 4 months and I have gained soooo much weight. I had to get new pants two sizes up! Is this normal, Do all IC patients have to take antidepresants? Has anyone lost the weight afterwards? I have tried working out a bit but it always send me into a multiply day flare. Any advise?

It's a bad side effect.....gaining weight.
I went up a pant size too. It's slowly starting to come off. Around 8 pounds so far. I've been watching what I eat and walking and some low impact exercise also.
My advise would be stay away from candy!
It's my weakness.....
Hugs to you!

I only had to take 10 mg to help me sleep. My husband was prescribed 30 mg to help him sleep when work was really stressful. I had to stop taking elavil because it reacts to my migraine medicine.

i took the medicine for only a short peroid of time my body just couldnt cope with it.
sorry i can't be of any help here.
but i have read from others that it did cause weight gain I think most anti. does. even my lexapro i think has caused me to gain some weight. and i was really hopeing to stay in my size tens i guess that is something i need to work harder on but its hard when you can't do anything to stop it because excerise causes me lots of pain also.
and the funny thing is i don't eat alot or eat fatten foods OH well life goes on it could be wrose.

Post ON ELAVIL FOR 1 1/2 YEARS

Ive been diagnosed for 1 1/2 years now and i was on the elavil that long also. yes i gained wieght from it. about 20 lbs. but the benifits are worth it. I took elmiron 3 xs daily atorax at bedtime and elavil at bedtime. Last week was my 6 month check up and my doc said to try to stop the elavil. I was wondering if anyone else had been on it that long and went off. 1 week and im starting to see a change in my sleep. waking up to go to the bathroom again where i hadnt done that in a long long time. which was wonderful sence when my ic was full force i woke up 4-6 times a night.
but back to you. i know wieght gain can be upsetting but the benifits i recieved from elavil were worth it. compaired to the sleepless nights and accidents when i couldnt make it in time.

best of health to you
Rosie

Yes ,I have been on Elavil for quite a while .I have gained alot but I have become waaaayyyy inactive where as I used to work out daily and diet.
Like Jamie said ,It works but you also have to watch what you eat and maybe do some type of cardio.Walking is actually the best way to burn off fat
I used to love to work out in the a.m. to Denise Austin. Its on early I think 7 a.m. she has a low impact aerobic show on Lifetime!
Michelle
Now I gotta get up off my butt myself and get back into the swing of it LOL.That is the hardest part, after slacking off.
