Zyrtec

Hi, My. dr just prescribed Zyrtec for my IC. I tried Vistaril, and it was too sedating. He says it is a metabolite of Vistaril. Has anyone had success with Zyrtec?? Thanks, Grace

Question

Rhonda
I have been on Zyrtec for over a year by my ENT. I started because of horrible sinus headaches It seemed to have helped the headaches. When I first started taking it, I did feel bad for the first few days. Now I take it in the morinings. I was surprised when I went to the ur 3 weeks ago and he saw which meds I had been taking. He commented that zyrtec was good for IC.
I am not sure how much it helps but it sure isn't hurting.
But with IC you have so many other "little" things that go along with it. Sinus problems being one of them. And allergy season causes flare ups also.
But I am beginning to wonder..... just what does NOT cause a flare up???
Do you have any sinus or allergy problems?
Try it :p good luck
Denise

i do get sinus head aches from time to time but not to offen. i may try it when it happens again. i just have so much medicine i take now i would hate to add something else but if it helps it helps and that is all that counts.
i just go by what my uro tells me to do I trust him very much he has helped me so much.
i have heard of many people useing things like this and it has helped them i wish you luck and hope it helps you.
all i was saying is that it made my children sleepy. I didn't mean nothing bad about it.
'i'm not one to judge never have been and hopefully never will be i'm sorry if it came off like that.
all i knew to tell grace was what i have seen and it does make my children sleepy even my mother in law and from the first post it sounded to me that was the question that was being asked plus the flare up form the meds i personally dont know if it will make a person flare hopefully one of these sweet ladies will come by that can help grace more.and hopefully you can help her more since you take it I just wanted to answer graces post so she knew someone had read it.
I wish all of you the most luck in the world and pray it helps all of you.
sending you hugs and prayers
Rhonda

I've taken Zyrtec before for allergies. It didn't make me sleepy. I haven't taken it since I've had IC, though. I'm currently on Allegra, but can't tell if its doing anything for/against my IC.

I have been taking Zyrtec off and on for a couple of years. Since I found out I could have IC, I started taking it nightly. It seems to have helped tremendously as it helps me sleep at night too. However, my new uro has me trying atarax to see how that works.

Good luck with the zyrtec - Ive been doing great on it.

Hi Grace,
I've been on Zyrtec for a long while now. It does seem to help me with the IC pain, for when I quit taking it last year for a week or so, I started flaring big time. I immediately went back on it, and within a couple of days, my flare had subsided. I did have side effects such as grogginess the first few weeks, but it eventually disappeared, and it doesn't bother me at all now.

zyrtec

The zyrtec made me start wheezing. I thought I was getting asthma and couldn't figure out what was going on. Then I realized I had been taking the Zyrtec for a while and when I quit, the wheezing stopped. I"m taking Allegra 180 now.

Thanks for your replies! It's nice to see it can help. I'm having problems with constipation and wonder if it is the Zyrtec?? As of now I'm on 10mg and am only taking about a half a pill. I drink lots of water and I think I'm getting enough fiber. Anyone else have this problem??Grace
