I took it twice a day....morning and night. It made me very tired at first but eventually did not...although that made me think it wasn't doing anything. I recently started taking it as needed again. Tollerance is possible.....in time.

I take 25mg in the morning and at night. The drowsiness went away for me after a couple of weeks.

Current IC meds: Elmiron (since 2001), Levaquin (one pill after intercourse to prevent UTIs), Lexapro (since 2003 for depression & anxiety, but also helps my IC)

Past IC meds: Amitriptyline (Elavil), Hydroxyzine (Vistaril), Detrol LA (They all helped, but I was able to discontinue them.)

My IC story: http://www.ic-network.com/patientstories/kim.html It's very outdated now. I've been virtually symptom free and able to eat & drink whatever I'd like for several years now.

Hydroxizine is what has made IC bearable for me! I take 75 mgs at night. The tiredness and "brain fog" goes away in a few weeks.

Hydroxizine

I was originally Rx'd 50 mg's at night but it made me soooo groggy that my doc dropped it to 25 mgs. (I'm also on a bunch of other meds besides that..morphine, valium). Last few nights I've been peeing every hour on the hour...very frustrating so I upped it to 50 again. SO...I only woke up once last night and don't feel too groggy this morning but I think if I started every day I'd be a basket case again. I will keep it up for a few nights to "reset" my nighttime bladder rhythm but I'm very sensitive to these sort of drugs.

Good luck!T
