Anyone have retention with Neurontin?
Hi, I was just wondering if anyone developed retention with neurontin? I was doing fine and I increased my dose to 600 and now I am having symptoms of retention. They just started as I increased my dose from 500 to 600. So I am wondering if anyone else had urinary retention with it? I also started Prosed ds, I been taking one daily for about 4 days now, so I am having a hard time knowing what one is causing it. I am going to stop the prosed ds first and see what happens. Thanks, Lisa

That's what I would do. I learned to not make changes on my meds at the same so I would know better what was going on. Didn't mean I always did, but it helped. I was on Neurontin on several occasions through the years and I found that I had retention sometimes.
Hope it stops quickly! Tracey

I know I shouldn't have, it was time for me to increase my dose of neurontin. I think it could be the prosed ds, it caused me some retention before and when I looked it up, it has that as a side effect. So I am going to stop that first and see how I do over the next week so I can figure out then whats causing it. Lisa

Gosh Lisa, we sound sooooooooo much alike! Low BP, med sensitivities...ick!
Yes, I had retention (amoung other reactions) from Neurontin; and any other drug in that class (Gabatril, Lyrica, Cymbalta, etc) - all of these work the same. On the neurontin I started out like you - low - but when I worked my way up past the 600 mg mark, I got retention and then had seizures. The goal was to get me to 1800mg, but I never got past 800mg - I thought I could work through the retention but I couldnt. The same thing goes for all anti-depressants as well - I retain terribly to the point where I must cath myself. Its just awful I hate being so med sensitive, especially with having this neuropathy because it hurts awful and I need meds to stop the pain, yet there arent any I can take.
I havent ever been on the Prosed so I dont know if its that or not, but since you just started it, I'd do what you're doing too, stop it for now and see which one it is. I just wanted to answer your ? about the Neurontin since I did retain with it as I went up - you and I seem to have the same issues with the same meds (Cymbalta, Lyrica, etc). Its so frustrating...
Hugs,
Brittany

Hi Brittany. It is frustrating. Yesterday I did not take my prosed ds, I noticed this morning when I went, my stream was ALOT stronger. I already feel better. So I will give it a few more days and see how I do.

I am much improved today from the retention. So this is the 2nd day I did not take the prosed ds and I am already doing SO much better. Well atleast I tried it. It helps me to know now what was causing it.

The increase in dose is making me a walking zombie. I am so tired I just don't feel well. I am decreasing the dose again, the doctor told me to. I could not get higher then 400 last time I took it. I have a pain management app next week so I may see if I can just go off it because my doctor said it doesn't work well at low doses.

Hi and thank you, retention is all cleared up. I stopped the prosed ds. The retention went away. So it wasn't the neurontin. I have had absolutely no energy since I increased my dose, I thought a few days would help and it hasn't. The rheumotologist said to wean off it, and when I see him we will decide whats next to try. They said I could stay at 300 or 400 but it realy doesn't work well that low.

Yuck Lisa, I hate retention. I think you and I are different when it comes to retention. You told me you get some out but don't empty all the way. With me, if I'm having retention then I can't get a single drop out.
I'm up to 2400 mg of neurontin now. I do get retention but I can't find any pattern to it whatsoever. The only thing I can figure out is if something happens to make me retain, like sex, once I have to cath once then I end up in a cycle where I'm doing it all the time.
Thinking about it, I think yesterday was the first day in about a week that I didn't have to cath at least once. I'm pretty sure it's not the neurontin in my case though because I was on 1600 mg with no problems and then even after increasing to 2400 didn't cause me any problems in the beginning. I'm glad you figured out what was causing the problem for you. It just seems like you can't take neurontin because before it made you sick and now this retention. I on the other hand seem to be able to go up to any dose that I want but it doens't do a darn thing for me.

I take 600mg of neurontin at hs and have for one year. You know how my bladder reacts to meds with retention. I have no retention from neurontin. I know some gals take 18--=2400mg. Do you have the atropine free prosed? Prosed also has hyscoscamine-sp in it which could make you retain. I know you will figure it out. Vicky
