Help looking for a PFD therpsit in Vancouver

Hi I am looking for a PFD therapist in Vancouver. I have tried calling places and get the same responce from most, just come see us we will see what we can do, you know they have no idea. I tried speaking directly to the therapist they react the same way. My Dr. has warned me it needs to be someone farmiliar with PFD treatment, that others can cause more damage. And that I do not want incontient treatment which is what most of them think you need.

I would appreciate any names and numbers. I am going to see Dr. again May 23/ and since I have to travel so far to get to Vancouver I would like to see someone for PFD at the same time.

Thanks Mothergoose

Hi Mothergoose,

Coincidentally, I picked up this card at my gyno just last week. I haven't had a chance to call or anything yet, but it looks promising! Hopefully this isn't one of the places you already tried.

http://www.pelvicdysfunction.ca

It's in Richmond, but hopefully that's close enough to Vancouver to be of use to you.

Good luck! I hope that this gives you what you're looking for, or at least a starting place.

I call there I got an app for end of June but I am on the wait list for two other dates that I will be in the lower main land. No Richmond is not to far. Where I live you don't think anything about the travel, next closest towns to me are all an hour away, but 60 miles it all hwy miles and no traffic but when you get there you still are nowhere. Hve to travel 200 miles to get to a place of anysize. I can't thank you enough.

Thanks Mothergoose

great pt in van

Hi,

I had my first session with Marcy Dayan, a physio specializing in pelvic floor dysfunction who practices at the Seymour Medical Clinic
1530 7th Avenue West
Vancouver, BC V6J 1S3
(604) 738-2151

She was so good. She's been treating people with IC for 10 years and she seemed to know all about IC - how painful it is, where the pain is, why you have the symptoms. She actually seemed to be more proactive and more knowledgeable than my urologist. She is totally straight forward and in depth. She spent an hour and a half with me (I was her last client of the day). I didn't feel rushed, she listened to me, she knew all about my symptoms and exactly how she could help. It was such a relief. She offered to have my husband sit in on a session so she could properly explain the illness to him and why i'm doing physio. She addressed the emotional component of the whole painful sex issue. She said my therapist could call her and she can explain the illness to her in medical terms. She was wonderful. I highly recommend her.

hope that helps!

- Dextroamphetamine has improved my symptoms and given me more energy
- Prelief lets me have some bad foods, but I follow the diet as much as possible
- Physio for pelvic floor dysfunction has helped a little
- Bladder distention Jan 2008 made me worse
- Elmiron didn't help after 9 months
- very slow improvement of symptoms, still in pain every day, on sick leave from work.

Wow. I wish I lived in Vancouver instead of Ontario. She sounds like a gem! I am happy you found someone like that. Just having someone acknowledge your discomfort is a huge relief.

Hi I did get a cancelation app. I really liked the lady, she was very knowledgeable. She said I was too sore to work on, but gave me some activies to do for a month, and some things to buy to help me. She would like me to have an two hour app. I am still on cancellation list for end of June. I will go back to her, but the 8 hour drive is pretty hard on me.

Hi thanks for the info If I can't get into the woman I saw I will call this lady.
She too sounds very good. It would be good to have a Dr. or someone explain it all to my husband.

We have a close freind that is a gp who has offered to talk to my husband, but I don't think I am going to go in that direction, for one we usally don't do med stuff when we get together as freinds, and two I recently had a discussion with him about IC, PFD and painful sex, and dosen't seem to think that IC or PFD cause painful sex. So I printed out a bunch of info about this topic and gave it to him to read, when I gave it to him I just said he might be interested in it. I usally go to a dufferent GP, but there is only the two doc's here.

Thnaks again for the info Mothergoose

oh my goodness mothergoose your husband has got to understand that the pain is real! the not having sex thing has had major major consequences for my marriage, i can't imagine if my husband had also thought it was in my head or something! i hope the women you have gotten into see is also good. you could maybe ask her if she would let your husband sit in on the session and she could explain things on a physical level to him. maybe hearing it explained from a person of authority could penetrate (no pun intended) his brain more. i mean it hard for me to understand and i have all the parts involved, so i imagine that guys can't really grasp it too easily. my husband is coming to my next appt so i hope that will help us. Good luck!

ps have you tried one of those doughnuts or seat cushions that you can get a pharmacy to put on your car seat? (they sell them at Shoppers Drugmart HomeHealthCare stores) could possibly help for the long drive?

Hi Mothergoose,

How has this been? Have you been able to see her again? I've been having issues lately and suspect that it may be time for me to book a preliminary appointment with her. I hope you're doing well and feeling a bit better! Take care!
