This might sound stupid for some but i really do wonder- I am almost 33yrs old. I haven't been sexually active yet. I actually wonder if i should get the vaccination. My best friend who is older is also a virgin. We didn't plan it that way, just didn't date much and haven't gotten any- doesn't mean we won't eventually.

I just read (wish I could remember where, ugh) that there's been a bit of controversy surrounding the vaccination and it's possible adverse reactions. There reportedly have been like 7 reports of deaths following HPV vaccination, dying of heart problems and/or blood clotting after receiving the vaccine, and some reported "neurological symptoms". There's been no hard and fast connections where they can say for sure it was the cause of the deaths etc, but it just kind of made me think about it!!

My opinion is do all the research you can on it and it's latest studies etc! Can't hurt to be safe!!!

I had sons and have been married (and both faithful for almost 25 years) so I haven't read much about HPV, but I have friends with daughters that are already talking about allowing their daughters to have the vaccination. What I know is just what I heard about it on the Today Show. Please research it as Tracey suggested.

I am a very firm believer in this injection. After tons and tons of research and going threw cervical cancer biopies out the ying yang and a complete hysterectomy and still having abnormal paps in the vaginal cuff I never want my child to go threw this heart ache and fear that I lived with in between testing and still going though. Next biopsy is Dec 3rd. My 15 year old just finsihed her 3rd in the serious of injections and my other daughter will start them next summer. The data on all vaccines is a luck of the draw as to how one will react. As a mother I feel it is my duty to protect my girls from anything I can. As a lol 'retired" med tech I have done my own research and decided the benefits so outway the risks. This is every parents own personal choice to make, but a good one like all vaccines to look into.

The job of med tech can vary depending on the medical facility and of the specific department where they work.

I have not research the side effects of it but love the idea of it. I am 29 and still am close to my high school friends. Sadly, most of us have had an abnormal pap due to HPV. Some of us that have had abnormal paps due to HPV have been on the prudish side. Just goes to show STD's do not discriminate. HPV does not cause ovarian cancer. HPV can cause genital warts, pre cancerous cervical cells, and cervical cancer. I am lucky to have only had one abnormal pap. What I find very interesting that a rep that I know in the GYN Pap industry has shared that HPV in my age group is so ramped that the industry is writing us off. Another word, they are not performing the test on us to identify which type of HPV we have (they will perform these test on older women). Ins will also not pay for our vacancies because it is believed that most of us already have it. If the side effect profile is low (again have not researched it) I would jump all over this. I believe the vaccine protects you from the four most common hpv strains??

My Emilee is 15 and will be 16 in April. I know she is not sexually active yet, because she doesn't get away from us to have a chance. I also believe that since my daughter knows all about my mistakes in my youth, she will wait for awhile. We are also Christians and she believes it is wrong to have sex before marriage.

I am confused on this vaccination. I hear good things, but they're on the commercials that are paid for BY the company making the vaccine. I hear bad things, and then back and forth and back and forth.

WHERE can I go to get true, complete information??

My daughters are not sexually active but sooner or later will be and may be effected at some point in the their life and I am willing to protect them way before hand

When I was a med tech I did anything from dip urines to file charts. Later got tired of that went on to be a medical coder.

Michelle, I think it would be a good idea to talk with your doctor. My girls are all adults now and too old for the vaccine, but you might try thinking of it as added protection just in case. We don't hesitate at all to protect our children from such things as diptheria, whooping cough, tetanus --- even if we have never met anyone with any of those diseases. I'm thinking it won't be many years before this new one will be a routine precaution just like the other ones we don't hesitate on.

I was talking to my co-worker just a few minutes ago and my husband about this situation this morning and we know our sons grew up with Christian morals, but that doesn't keep anyone from making the wrong choices. I know my older son and DIL waited, but I couldn't tell you what my younger son was doing for anything right now. He is a great kid with big plans for his future. He is very much into computers and all that Information Technology stuff, but I also know that he has girlfriends that are very sweet and very involved in church and with their family, but there is always that chance. He has made his promise to wait, but I have seen plenty of kids make that same promise every year during their teens and things don't always go the way they planned. I know now that if I would have had daughters, I would have done the research and talked to my daughters about this. I have plenty of Christian friends whose daughters have had the series of shots. Their daughters know this doesn't give them the freedom to make wrong decisions, they still want wait until they are married. My friend here are work just started her daughter on her first shots. There is no way her daughter is even thinking about sex right now, she is so much into sports and with a parent or her parent's friends most of the time and wants soccer to be her way into college, but they aren't taking any chances.

You can't watch them constantly. My kids know my history too, and even as Christians, we make mistakes.

Boy, you are SURE right about now being able to watch them constantly. My sister's youngest daughter, Brooke, is only 2 1/2 weeks older then my Emilee and she's not a virgin. Of course, there are no rules at my sisters house. Don't get me started on THAT. Anyway, I'll talk to Nurse Marty when she's back from maternity leave. She ought to be back pretty soon.

It does not take sex to get HPV. In some cases it just takes skin to skin contact to spread HPV. I am pretty sure that your young daughters are not sexually active if you do not think they are. But teenagers do not tell their parents everything by far. However, at some point regardless pre marriage or post marrage they will be. HPV is truely rampid and most people that have it do not know. Guys that have HPV are only carriers unless they have one of the strains that causes genital warts. There are two types of HPV (many strains). One classification causes genital warts the other is more serious and causes abnormal cells (can cause cervical cancer) Just wanted to add that I and my six friends were raised in the church. I know one girl that got it from her husband and she waited untill they were married. I think speaking to the doctor and getting the facts would be a good idea.
