IC symptoms coming back
Dear All:
I have been away for quite a while. I gave birth about five months ago to a beautiful baby girl. My husband, I , and family are thrilled. This is the good news. The bad news is that my IC symptoms which gave me a break during thethird trimester and the first few months of after giving birth, are coming back. I think my hormones are responsible for it. Have any of you IC moms encountered something similar to this? By theway I am in the process of slowing down on breastfeeding.I want to wean in about one month. Thanks for your input in advance.
Minnie

Hi Minnie-
I too have a beautiful new baby- well 7.5 mo. old. I STARTED having all the symptoms of ic after his birth. Not having experienced anything like this before i just assumed it was post partum healing....until it..didn't...go..away......started to complain to drs. no one seemed to have any ideas except the family practice guy i see! Said it was really rare...haha! and then I saw a midwife who looked it up...so after tons of research I'm pretty sure I have ic....@#%^$^%!
Anyway, it would be nice to chat with another mom that has a new baby. Hope you are getting some sleep! take care.I can also be reached at lnorthey@pressenter.com

Dear Minnie,
Congratulations on the birth of your daughter.I think your instincts about the hormones are correct. I had a very similar experience, though my children are now grown- 20 and 18 years old! It goes by quick so savor every minute. Anyway my IC got better during pregnancy and while I was nursing. As soon as I cut back on the breastfeeding things got bad again. Of course I also breastfed for fairly long time periods. My first child was weaned at 18 months because I was pregnant again and my second child I breastfed till he was 20 months. Loved every minute.

Congratulations to you all with your children! I do miss having a little one, thankfully, I have a new niece that was born on the 20th. My youngest is going to be 3 in less than a month. I did notice that it was not nearly as painful while pregnant, but it did come back within a couple of months. I've only been Dx'd for about a year and a half, but have felt like this for well over 5 years. The only thing you can do is take it one day at a time. relish the time when you feel good enough to do something with your children and trust that they will adjust to your illness and take it in stride when they are older. My 8 year old is great about helping when I feel badly. She's adjusted greatly. Take care. Michelle in KC
