Elavil/high Blood Pressure
I have recently been diagnosed with IC and went through with the DSMO treatment and it did not seem to help. Now the URO has put me on elavil. I had a rountine visit to my cardiologist (I have a fast heart rate..not due to the IC) and he found my blood pressure to be extremely high. He put me on blood pressure medication, plus increased the dosage for my heart rate. Has anyone else experienced an increase in their blood pressure from being put on elavil?

jcl - No I haven't, but the meds can react so differently on each of us. I was on Atarax for three weeks and had severe water/urine retention. Wasn't listed as a side effect so the doc scratched her head. Obviously I went off of it and everything went back to normal with no retention. Elavil may be affecting you in a different way than most. There are other options available to you than Elavil. I hate to see you have to take MORE meds. If it were me I'd ask for a similar drug and see if that helps reduce your blood pressure.

I was only on elavil for a few days and my blood pressure shot up to dangerous levels. I stopped taking it and it went back down fairly quickly. I ended up buying a blood pressure digital monitor so I can take my own blood pressure to track it.

Hello!
My blood pressure did go up, but it's really low anyway, so it wasn't a problem. But I did have that same reaction.
