Question cytolytic vaginosis?

Has anyone heard of this cytolytic vaginosis? And have you been tested or successfuly treated for it? It supposively has symptoms that mimic a yeast infection. I recently read an article on the ICA web site about this condition and was curious to find out more info on it if possible.

I've suspected that I've had it. It is confused with yeast infection because it has similar symptoms. It is an overgrowth of good bacteria, I believe the lactobacilli. It is treated by stopping all meds for yeast. I'm not sure if there are other treatments as well....maybe antibiotics?

How do they diagnose this condition, or don't they?

(thanks July)

I think they can take a swab like they do with a yeast test and look at it under a microscope to see if there is a high amount of lactobacilli. I'm not certain, but I think they can do that.

Perfect timing,, I just was doing a search on this tonite and said let me try the IC board and here is your post.

My gyno today said that she saw a lot of the lactobicilli and some BV under the microscope.

I wonder if i may have this too.......I have a lot of the symptoms and they used to go away with my period (only time i felt normal)

I noticed when I stopped my probiotic for a few weeks i wasnt as irritated.......

The lab reports I always get just say normal flora.

My guess is most gynos never heard of this.

Hi...I am stopping my pro biotics for a while to see if it makes a difference to the burning...I only have one of those Activa yog drinks each day, which surely is not enough to cause a problem, but who knows??

Hello

I've wondered about this too. I'm SO much better during my period (with tampon --sorry if too much info). I read somewhere on this site that you can do sitz baths with baking soda for this. I can not remember how much though and can't find the site. I also remember reading that the test needs to be on the Ph level and should not be internal cervical.

I recently got antibiotics after seeing my Ob/Gyn. They did not help. He said he saw inflammation and clue cells though, so something was going on. Anyway, when that didn't work I went on diflucan, which did not work either. Finally the blessed period came and I felt very close to normal. Not itching, burning.

I am trying to get referred to a urogynecologist, since the blasted itching ruined a one year plus remission in the urethral pain.

douching with baking soda

My doctor just asked to douche with baking soda dilluted in water b/c he thinks the discharge I have is a "rebound" for all the anti yeast treatment I did lately. I'm supposed to douche for 5 days with this mix. I'm also very frustated with teh lab results returning negative. I don't get it. I've been suffering with yeast infections for the past year and 1/2.

I know this douches with baking soda are very alkaline, so he is probbably suspecting a bacteria overgrowth. Bakin soda is very alkaline and yeast like that but I guess I have to follow the docotr's orders.

vaginosis

I have had periodically bouts with vaginosis since the time I got IC. in my case, I think it is related to hormonal changes. I have a white discharge when I get it but no itching. last time i used a suppository cream.

Baking soda douches

The whole idea of the baking soda is to get rid of lactobacillli overgrowth.
Per my dr's order, I was supposed to do baking soda douches for 5 nights. I did it one night then I got my period yestrday so I have this baking soda douches on hold. This is VERY EXTRANGE since I was not supposed to get my period as I'm taking birth control pills NON STOP to suppress my period. We'll...this is the first month I'm doing this (nont stop BCP) so maybe it is expected to have a light period.
I'm pretty sure the white discharge that I got right before this "period" was yeast not lactobacilli, but my doctor didn't think so because the yeast didn't show up the culture 1 week ago. Now I'm itching and don't know what to do.
