Can Diflucan cause a flare! HElP!!!!

I keep getting yeat infecitons as you all know and am trying to get it under control with probiotics, nystatin vag tablets, eating right, etc. The dr put me on Diflucan once a week as a preventive measure. When the first bout of yeast went away I forgot to take it. The yeast came back so I quickly started the vag nystatin as it helps faster then I took diflucan and the pain was worst. I thought it was just the yeast problem. It finally started to feel better so i thought let me take my prophylactic dose of diflucan to keep things under control and sure enough 1.5 hours later the pain started to cep back. I thought it was the food but then made the connection that the same thing happened when I took the diflucan a few days before. I wracking my brains out thinking back to other times that I've taken diflucan......all pain....but I always assumed it was the yeast!
Do other people flare from diflucan???
I did an instillation last night of marcaine and elmiron as I have started them as a therpaurtic treament but it didn't help this flare at all. I'm thinking of doing another one this morning but don't know what type of instillaiton would be best for it!
any ideas? anyone else have this diflucan sensitivity?
I'm starting to lose my mind with all this. I keep trying to be compliant with treatment but something always gets me.......sorry I needed to vent!
thanks,

There are instances when the best thing to do is call your doctor. I honestly think this is one of those times. It may be that the infection you have now is not yeast. It probably is, but your doctor may want to take a culture to verify that you are on an effective treatment.

I hope you feel better very soon.

I think it would be a great idea to phone your doctor too.. you don't want to get a worse infection if that is indeed what is going on.

Right now I am feeling a little better as I did an instillation of extra marcaine and elmiron. it doesn't feel like an infection but I will call him anyway. I don't know what it will feel like wihen it wears off!
thanks for the advise.

Diflucan is usually well tollerated but remember we are ICers so we can be sensitive to anything...even if we tollerated it well in the past. It doesn't need to make sense its IC lol.

Have you ever had Nystatin?

I hope you feel better soon!!!

This week's favorite one-liner:
"I love deadlines. I especially like the whooshing sound they make as they go flying by...

New second favorite:
"And which dwarf are you?."

Adding a third because I'm just so darn easily amused...
"Eagles may soar, but weasels aren't sucked into jet engines."

Current treatments:
-IC diet
-Elavil 20mg at night
-Ditropan 5mg at night
-Continuous use birth control pills (4-5 periods/year)
-Heparin/Marcaine/Sodium Bicarb home instills every night & sometimes in the morning also
-Pyridium if needed, usually once a week or so
-1 Darvocet at bedtime,
-Flexeril 10mg at bedtime
-Dye Free Benadryl for allergies occasionally
-Pelvic floor & myofascial release (external only) physical therapy for 8 weeks, then home exercise program...
-Managing stress
-Fur therapy: Hugging the cat!

Thnaks for the replies. I am going to hold off form it for a while. I was wracking my brains out and then realized that I had also started calclum citrate 2 days before but took one in the morning both days and had no problem. I started a tiny dose of MSM liquid aobut 5 days before and was taking it twice a day and no problem. this happened right after I took the diflucan!
For now I am laying off all three things and when this pain subsides I MIGHT start the calcium first, then a week or two later the MSM but definately NOT the diflucan. I remeber other flares that dilfucan unsuspectingly may have been involved.
thank for the help!
hope you are all doing well.
