anyone have symptoms or problems using Septra/Bactrim? I need to know soon...
Hi to everyone! I have to take Septra/Bactrim for a different physical issue than my bladder (for a change!! ) Has anyone experienced problems taking Septra/Bactrim? Does the bladder tolerate it well? Any answers would be helpful. It is the only antibiotic I can use for my particular problem. Thanks, Liz

Septra/Bactrim are sulfa-based antibiotics. Those who are allergic to sulfa should avoid them. Some people do have some stomach upset with it. I am not allergic to sulfa and have no trouble taking these meds.

bactrim and oxalate
Bactrim is a recursor to oxalate...so if high oxlate foods cause you a problem... like spinach etc. Bactrim will irritate you...

I took Bactrim for a kidney infection before I was diagnosed with IC, so I do not know what bladder issues it may cause, since I never paid attention -- however, I threw up constantly while on it and needed to be hospitalized for IV antibiotics after that. So, yeah, it can be hard on the tum-tum.

I found out the hard way that I was allergic to this drug. I was at work and started to feel very warm and a little headachy. Some of my friends I work with stopped and had an astonished look on their faces. They told me to go look in the mirror. I had big blotches all over me (I told them it was my new look...all the rage on London). But seriously, I ran to my Doctors office and she told me well, I guess we are allergice to Sulfa aren't we. I have to avoid them now obviously (frustrating because some of the Sulfa drugs are the most effective for certain things I have gotten....though I love Macrodantin and Macrobid...always make me feel better on those antibiotics for some reason).

I took this medication recently, and I had some sort of reaction to it, (had I had bladder spasms, pain). I had to be put on another antibiotic.
Good luck, as you might have a different reaction.

 Liz,
Is Bactrim a sulfite drug? I think I recall it is; but all sulfite drugs seem to do a number on my bladder and my stomach. But everyone is different.
