Is this normal?

I had a UTI started two weeks ago, finally got diagnosed as UTI Sunday a week ago, felt better Saturday, had residual urinary burning urgency Sunday while still on antibiotic, saw doc Monday, he said hit the Monistat, so I did last nite - up til then I did not have any vaginal symptoms - inserted the application of meds, and Geeezzzz - itch and burn in vaginal walls! Died down by morning, but is that normal? Or could it be a reaction to the meds?

you know I had a yeast infection a few months back and hadn't ever had one since the dreaded IC. Let me tell ya, I put that yeast cream in at night and by morning I thought I was going to die. It was Monistat. It hurt!! Not so much burning but just made it my vagina hurt. I don't know what the answer is but I know how you feel. Get better soon.

Unfortuantly I think it could be either. I know yeast infections will make me flare itch and burn.... I don't recall ever having that reaction from Monistat but I guarantee you that us ICers can react to anything!!!!!

Not sure if I understand you perfectly here...but if you had an infection and had burning and urgency...couldn't it be from the UTI? If that is the case than I recommend taking some extra calcium....and maybe other forms of ant acids.

The second page has 4 attachments...the last one is a list of ideas for IC pain.....take a look if pain is problem for you. For IC flare and UTI flare help ideas

Some alternative yeast ideas:
YEAST LIST: Boric Acid, Aci-gel (insert it at night, it maintains the ph of the vagina & yeast can't live when there's an acidic environment - or can use apple cider vinegar in water) and also washing externally with tea-tree oil diluted in water. \acidopholous tablets, a wet towel with s AZO yeast, http://www.ghtbiz.net/rescue/nocandida/lead.html, Any probotics, Flora-Q The Flora-Q is made by Kenwood Therapeutics. It contains Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium, Lactobacillus paracasel, and Streptococcus thermophilus -- these are all bacteria that normally live inside your digestive tract. What you do is take a capsule a day for a few days during antibiotic treatment and then a couple afterwards, and this replaces your normal flora, making it much less likely to to get yeast infections. (Nystatin, Diflucan by prescription.)

I've had the itching, burning reaction from the Monistat (and others) also....so bad I had to get up and take a shower just to get it OFF it was so bad. I always thought it was because I was already raw and irritated "down there" from having the yeast. Thank God for Diflucan and boric acid capsules!

One time when I went to the drug store to pick up some OTC yeast cream the pharmacist told me not to panic if I had worse burning the first couple days or so. She said it is very common with those creams.

Diagnosed August 2001

Current IC meds: Elmiron (since 2001), Levaquin (one pill after intercourse to prevent UTIs), Lexapro (since 2003 for depression & anxiety, but also helps my IC)

Past IC meds: Amitriptyline (Elavil), Hydroxyzine (Vistaril), Detrol LA (They all helped, but I was able to discontinue them.)

My IC story: http://www.ic-network.com/patientstories/kim.html It's very outdated now. I've been virtually symptom free and able to eat & drink whatever I'd like for several years now.
