yeast from Macrobid?

Hi, Girls,

I thought Macrobid wasn't supposed to cause yeast infections because it goes straight to the urinary tract and is then excreted. What gives? I seem to get yeast whenever I take Macrobid, even a couple of capsules over a weekend to prevent UTIs after sex (doctor prescribed it this way). I don't think it's the sexual activity causing it, I think it's the Macrobid, because I don't always take it with sex. Anyone else experience this?

Diana.

Yes, I suppose if one is predisposed to getting yeast at the drop of a hat, even Macrobid will do it, as it is, after all, an antibiotic! Darn. Sometimes I get reassurance from taking one after sex, but I don't feel that way any more, if it's just going to cause yeast. How reassuring is that? NOT!

I think if it gets into your blood than it has a chance of giving you a yeast infection....and any medicine you take is going to get in your blood. Have you tried taking something to prevent the yeast infection everytime you take an antibiotic?? There are natural ways like probotics. Do probotics work for you? I hope you feel better soon.

That is about the only antibotic that I don't get yeast for. I'm taking it now for a bladder infection.

I was told to take acidopholus biofido bacteria (sp?) while on an antibiotic. It is something you can purchase in a health food store and helps to maintain healthy bacteria.
