Doxycycline

Hello,

I was just wondering if anyone else has tried the antibiotic Doxycycline for I.C.? I've tried ALL commonly prescribed I.C. treatments without gaining any relief and some of the treatments (instillation and overactive bladder meds)made me feel much worse. One of my primary care doctors provided me with information on a few Doxycycline studies that were done on I.C. patients and evidently a large percentage of the patients in the study claimed to have bladder relief as a result of taking the antibiotic. I previously (approx. 3 years ago) tried amoxicillian/augmentin for I.C. which didn't help at all but caused great irritation to my intestines.
So far, this antibiotic seems milder than the amoxicillian and may even be helping a little. (not sure yet) It's commonly prescribed long-term for acne. So, I figured that if nothing else, my acne will clear up. : < )

I hope it helps, IC and acne!

If you click on the 'search' above, and type in doxycycline, you might find some older posts about other patients taking it or making a thread about the subject in the past.

Hugs to you.............

Lightbulb it didn't work for me...

i was on it for a month.

i perform heparin, sodium bicarb, xylocaine/lidocaine 2 %, and a steriod called solu cortef. seems to work for a day or two.

i have tried to go fully organic with my foods.

i cannot drink a lot of water because my bladder is so small.

i guess we have to try everything to try and find some sort of relief. even if it is just for a couple of days.

my pain meds, valium, and klonopin help.

good luck!

shenna
