Diflucan treatment for chronic yeast
Just to let you all know - I spoke with my women's health nurse practitioner, and she has her patients use one Diflucan tablet twice a week for three weeks to get rid of a bout of chronic yeast. She said to take a tablet every 3-4 days, in other words. Her belief is that you don't get recurrent infections, but the original one hasn't been resolved. I thought that was interesting!

hmmm. Well, a lot of us with Chronic yeast are going through a lot of antibiotic treatment. For those that are doing so because of infections I would think they are having new yeast infections.
Not sure what to think of her belief that the original one just hasn't been resolved....some of us do have weak immune systems which would make it all the harder to get rid of a yeast infection. Still....most yeast infections I get make my IC flare....I think I would notice when I have one after all this time.
Thanks for sharing.
Many of us are on a low dose diflucan every day if we are on antibiotic treatment. I am doing that....I know it comes with some risks...Diflucan is a strong medicine. Not sure taking a strong dose every three days would be better though....not sure.
Can you give us the milligrams of the tablet she recommends?

My doc has me take one tablet every 3 days --- for a total of 3 in all. Seems to do the trick!

Diagnosed August 2001
Current IC meds: Elmiron (since 2001), Levaquin (one pill after intercourse to prevent UTIs), Lexapro (since 2003 for depression & anxiety, but also helps my IC)
Past IC meds: Amitriptyline (Elavil), Hydroxyzine (Vistaril), Detrol LA (They all helped, but I was able to discontinue them.)

Diflucan is generic now and is cheaper, at least compared to what it used to be. You might check with your pharmacist and see if it isn't easier to just pay cash for it? Just an idea. Good luck!
