Neurotin...how long does it take?
I was just wondering how long it took for people to notice a difference when they take neurotin. i started it last thursday, and have had some really bad days this past week. some people have said it makes their pain worse, but for those of you that it worked for, how long did it take until you started feeling better? i'm on 900 mg/day. thanks

Hi Megs, hi
I am on 1800mg. of Neurontin (was on 2400mg. but couldn't tolerate that dose) and it took a couple of weeks to work. I didn't think it was really working, and I had to stop it for a drug interaction (morphine time release pills and this med do not mix) and when I stopped it I got into the flare of a lifetime. So it does work. For me, anyway. It also helps me sleep through the night, which is a great blessing. I hope it works wonders for you.
Hugs and love,
Jess

Hey, Jess, how is the morphine for your pain? I am going for my last DMSO tom. and then off to the pain clinic. Finally. Does it work 24/7 for your pain? And, what are your side affects on it? thanks!

Hi Dana,
Sorry I can't help you on the morphine question. I am allergic to it. Try the pain management boards, there is a big discussion on morphine in the archives there. Good luck!
Hugs and love,
Jess

Megs,
I'm on 300 mg. 3x day and noticed improvement about a week later. Every week the intensity of pain is lowered. I sure do wish dr. had prescribed much soooooner. For anyone else not on it, I suggest you read up on it and request your dr. prescribe.
So hang in there, you should start noticing improvement soon. Hugs coming your way grouphug

Hi gals,
I was wondering if anyone else had to go on neurontin in a phased in approach 100 mg at a time until reaching the dosage? Or did you just go right on the full dose? any side effects?
Cath

Hi Cath,
I was weaned up. First it was 300mg., then 600mg., then 900mg. and so on. But I like the 1800mg. dose. Granted, it doesn't help totally with my pain but I tried 2400mg. and it did me in
Hugs and love, and good luck!
Jess

I was given Neurontin for severe headaches. I was given 300mg for 3 days then 600mgs the next 3 days, then 900mgs,etc. The doctor increased it rapidly because of the pain level. The side effects of teh Neurontin were terrible because the medication was given so fast. The have been subsiding. The headaches had improved. I really believe that medications help with some of the pain, but physical therapy has also played an important role. I stress p.t. for others and consist committment to the p/t and the exercises. A p/t who specializes in p/t. i also do bladder instillations of lidocaine and heparin. I am caution people with addictive pain medication. I am a therapist and I end up seeing many patients in my office after years that they are on medications and addicted and are taken off it by their doctors. Good luck! Wanda

Wanda, Please forgive me if I seem harsh. I have been on Percocet since last fall. I would not say I am "addicted". I am dependent, yes. Tolerance has been a slight issue. But, I am not addicted. I have pain everyday that is not relieved by anything but, pain meds. I would not "judge" people to be addicted because they have to take narcotics to just function. I would rather take these meds. and have a better quality of life than the alternitive.
