Is acidophilus okay for IC patients?
I seem to be having more yeast infections lately. Am wondering if acidophilus pills are okay for us?

This week's favorite one-liner:
"I love deadlines. I especially like the whooshing sound they make as they go flying by...
New second favorite:
"And which dwarf are you?."
Adding a third because I'm just so darn easily amused...
"Eagles may soar, but weasels aren't sucked into jet engines."
Current treatments:
-IC diet
-Elavil 20mg at night
-Ditropan 5mg at night
-Continuous use birth control pills (4-5 periods/year)
-Heparin/Marcaine/Sodium Bicarb home instills every night & sometimes in the morning also
-Pyridium if needed, usually once a week or so
-1 Darvocet at bedtime,
-Flexeril 10mg at bedtime
-Dye Free Benadryl for allergies occasionally
-Pelvic floor & myofascial release (external only) physical therapy for 8 weeks, then home exercise program...
-Managing stress
-Fur therapy: Hugging the cat!

I'm not sure. I take them sometimes but I'm not sure if they bother me or not. I know we're not supposed to have yogurt, but I don't know if that's due to the acidophilus or not. It does occur naturally in our bodies, doesn't it?

I have read here before that it is fine to take it. I used to take it daily when I was first diagnosed with IC b/c I was very prone to yeast infections. It didn't seem to hurt my bladder at all ---- and I was pretty diet sensitive back then.

Current IC meds: Elmiron (since 2001), Levaquin (one pill after intercourse to prevent UTIs), Lexapro (since 2003 for depression & anxiety, but also helps my IC)
Past IC meds: Amitriptyline (Elavil), Hydroxyzine (Vistaril), Detrol LA (They all helped, but I was able to discontinue them.)
My IC story: http://www.ic-network.com/patientstories/kim.html It's very outdated now. I've been virtually symptom free and able to eat & drink whatever I'd like for several years now.

I take acidophilus and it does not bother my bladder. I was told to get the kind that you keep refrigerated because they are better for you.

sInce I had to be on Cirpo for months, I also took acidophilus twice a day and use it internally vaginally too, without it bothering the IC!! The only problem would be if the brand you buy has additives etc. I used DDS acidolphilus powder. You stir it in water and drink it. It really helps the yeast infections
