Question Singular

My doc gave me a prescription for Singular if I want to try it, but I already have elavil and atarax. Does anybody know anything about it? Is it another anti-histamine? Would it conflict with atarax (hydroxizine - sp?)?

I don't believe that it would cause any conflicts with your other medication. I'm on singular right now with my other 10 pills. I haven't noticed any side effects. Singular is used for people with allergies. IC is believed to be related to food allergies. I would probably try it if I were you. Chelsey

Atarax is an anti-histamine. Singulair is a leukotriene blocker typically used to treat asthma and season allergies. They both are used to treat allergies but work through different mechanisms. However, I don't know whether or not they can be taken together and suggest you talk to your dr or pharmacist if you're worried about drug interactions.

As an aside, Singulair is being used to treat IC because it is thought to block mast cells, which have been found in the bladder of some IC patients. I take Singulair and I like that it doesn't cause drowsiness.

I use this site to check interaction...just plug in all your meds.

I have been taking Singulair for a few years now for asthma, and I still have to take an antihistamine too.

Hey, thanks Daydreamer for the site!

Yes, my allergist said there are some very EARLY studies going on about Singulaire and IC.
