I take 20 mgs of Bextra twice a day. I don't know if it helps or not because I also take Elmiron, Atarax, and Elavil and started them all at the same time.

I use Bextra only when needed -- works for my back pain that I get along with bladder pain... But be careful if you have high blood pressure coz it could make that worse...

Last July, Jill posted about Bextra in her icn news letter.. it was about me.... I had started taken it and ended up with a cornia ulcer... I still to this day get eye inflamations that are 100x's worse then pink eye... They say that this medicine can cause Keritis. but.. what they don't tell you.. is it can turn into a cornia ulcer... kertits, is itchy dry, eye.. and it always feels like theres something in it... then feels like a hot poker in your eyes. and you cannot tolerate an light.. opening the fridge about killed me... it took 8 weeks of 5 anti's drops, and eye goo.. to treat this....
Please Please stop this meds if your eyes itch and go to an eye doctor...
hugs
Brat

Hi there! When I ended up with phlebitis after one of my tests (from the IV) my doctor gave me to rule out kidney problems (when diagnosing me with IC), my primary care doctor put me on Bextra. He gave me samples from the office. When it took me longer then he expected to get better, he tried to prescribe me some. My insurance company completely declined it and it was a very expensive med. I was shocked, I didn't know they could decline a medication. Apparently it's an arthritis type med that's in some classification that insurance carriers don't pay for.
Needless to say, the doctor just gave me more samples because it was easier then going through the process of trying to get my insurance to cover me. I don't think I noticed a difference in my IC symptoms while on it. My primary care doc was concerned about me taking Bextra with Elmiron and told me not to take the elmiron while I was on it. I was having other problems with Elmiron and was actually glad to have a real excuse as to why I wasn't taking it. I'm not sure if there is a real risk, as my primary care doc was not too familiar with Elmiron - I just thought I'd mention it in case it would apply to anyone taking it. I did go to the drug store and told them my doctor gave me samples so they could print me a detailed description and possible drug interactions (which they did for me without any charge).
Hope this info is helpful~
Jennifer

I was on Bextra for about 1 1/2 years. I also had a severe problem with my eyes. It was not as severe as Brat, but I was headed that way. I was on Bextra for spinal pain, along with other meds for my IC. It could have been a combination of the meds. But, my doctor did say that Bextra is not good to be on long term.
