How much zyrtec is ok to take?

My uro has me on 10mg of zyrtec a day - it has helped with keeping the burning at bay, but I'm wondering if it is ok to up the dose to 20mg? Anyone else on this? How much do you take?

Thanks!

I'm sure someone will come along with the doses they usually take.......just make sure it is ok'ed by your physician to do it or not.
I hope the burning stays under control for you!
Hugs!!!!!!

Beth re Zyrtec

Hi Beth,

I am wondering how long you have been taking Zyrtec? Do you find it is helping a lot with your IC pain? My pharmacist recommended I start with 5 mg. to see how I react to the drug as I know I am sensitive to new drugs.
So I cut the pill in half as it is scored to do that. I would rather start with a lower dose first myself and work up if I don't find I am getting improvement.
Maybe you should discuss this with your doctor and see what he/she recommends. Good luck with it. I have just started taking REACTINE which is the same as the ZYRTEC in the States - I am from Canada.

I take allegra. My kids are on zyrtec though and I know it works really well for them. I am not sure about the adult doses so I recommend asking your dr or pharmacist. Good luck!

Hi, I will def check with my doc. I thought I heard somewhere that even going up to 20mg was ok.

Louise - I've been on it for about 3 wks now - I think it is def doing something, 10mg/day - maybe it is working in conjunction with another drug, I dunno. All I do know is that it is helping to a degree so I'm going to stick with it. My uro gyn told me that there was a big urology conference recently where they said that both zyrtec and singulair were beneficial for IC.

Take care of yourselves.

Thanks BETH!!

Hi Beth,

Many thanks for posting that info. Do you find you have any side effects from the 10 mg. dose of Zyrtec? I know I still find I am more drowsy and tired in the a.m. even from the 5 mg. but I have only been taking it for
four nights. I think I will increase my dose to 10 mg. and take the whole pill instead of cutting it in half for the 5 mg. Also, what time of day do you take the pill? I started at 9 p.m. but am gradually working it back to around 7 p.m. so I am not so groggy in the morning. Many thanks for your help.
I feel optimistic that the REACTINE (Zyrtec) as it is called in Canada is going to help. Maybe it's because I really need some pain relief!!

SINCERE THANKS,

Louise

To Take Zyrtec or Not???

Hi,

I just started taking Zyrtec a week ago on the 5 mg. dose. I took it for four nights and while it didn't make me worse I felt I might be a bit better. But I was also coming off a very severe and painful reaction to Xanax.

On the fifth night, I increased the dose to 10 mg. and the next day the urethral and bladder pain were excruciating. So I decided not to take any of the Zyrtec the next night and the following day I felt quite a bit better.
Then last night I took the 5 mg. dose again and today the pain is horrible - very sharp and with pressure and some retention. I just don't know what to make of this. Does anyone have any suggestions what I should do? My husband and I discussed it and feel I should stop taking it for at least a couple of nights to see if I improve. The bladder pain is razor sharp and steady AND is driving me out of my mind. I suppose I should also put this in the "Venting" section. I feel like I have a UTI - I have had two in the past few months so I am submitting a urine specimen to get it checked.

Thanks for any suggestions or advice before I do go out of my mind!!

Louise
