Do you still get Pap smears with IC ?
Was not sure where to put this question but I want to know if you still get
Pap Smears after you get IC ?
I have not had one for over 2 years and wondering if getting a Pap smear done would kick up IC symptoms?
I have had 5 Children,a hysterectomy and never had a suspicious Pap smear.
I'm thinking I would leaave well enough alone but do see my Gyn next month ad ask him if he thinks I should.

I had a total Hysterectomy in the early 80's and did have a Pap every 5 years. On my request. Doctor said it wasn't needed any more.
After I turned 50 (Many moons ago) My doctor told me a Pap is No longer necessary because > There is Nothing to do a smear for > it is a empty body cavity. There's Nothing in there !
So I have Not had one since in my 40's.

I get it done every year. The pelvic exam, my doctor does very quickly, one finger for the manual part, with a pediatric speculum turned sideways for the pap test part. I've had horrible pap smears pre-IC diagnosis, but my doctors post-IC have all been aware to not push on my bladder and to be quick & careful.

-Flexeril 10mg at bedtime
-Dye Free Benadryl for allergies occasionally
-Pelvic floor & myofascial release (external only) physical therapy for 8 weeks, then home exercise program...

Whether you need a PAP test regularly is a question you need to ask your doctor. It can depend on whether the cervix was removed during the hysterectomy. If you had an abdominal surgery, you may still have a cervix, in which case your doctor may feel it's wise to continue the testing --- even beyond age 50.

Like Kadi, my gyn takes special precautions when I have my annual exam. Even though I have never had a problem with a positive pap, but I have had problems with ovarian cysts, so it is still important to have the pelvic exam. :-)

I still have a cervix and I'm 67 years old. I'll see what he says about it. I do have a lot of confidence in him. I'm glad to hear that others get the pap done with no problems.

I had All my female organs removed with my Hysterectomy in the 80's.
And the doctor's did do Pap's for awhile. (My request tho)
But the older I got , they said it was Not necessary anymore ( For ME that is ).
It is basically a empty cavity that goes No where !!!
There is Nothing to do a smear for.
If you still have all your female parts , then Yes a Pap is Manditory atleast every 2 years. Once a year if problems warrent it.

I had a hyster. back in 2000; I still get them every 2-3 years. I now go to my family doctor - after something my GYN said to me in regards to my IC I decided that I didn't need to see him (and this was after 20 years of going to him).

For those of you ladies that are afraid of Pain caused by this type procedure.
Have them use a Pre-Teen Girls speculim thingy. What ever it's called.
They can't use a woman's on a girl or it would rip the skin.
Many women are real small / tight there. Use a girls device , not a woman's.
