Hey there, I have ITP also. The elmiron is a blood thinner so therefore causing problems with the thinning of your blood, which may have worsened your ITP.
If you can stay away from other things that cause blood to thin, like grapes, wine (I know we can not drink this anyway...but some may..so figured I mentioned it), asprin, advil, ibiprofin, vinegar (we can not take this anyway, but vinegar is a blood thinner)....
IF you can eat organic yellow tomoatoes...they are a good choice also...but SOME OF US can not eat this...so again approach with caution (Tomatoes contain the potent antioxidant lycopene, which helps increase platelets. They are also high in minerals and vitamins) BUT AGAIN CAUTION....I CAN NOT TOLERATE RED ONES...and have yet to VENTURE INTO TRYING YELLOW....going to try over the xmas holidays to see....
EAT - Eat plenty of berries. All berries contain powerful compounds called phytonutrients, which neutralize free radicals in your body to help you increase your platelet count. Consume 1 cup of berries every day.
Consume foods rich in the fatty acid omega-3. Omega-3 fatty acid strengthens your immune system while helping your bone marrow create more platelets. Walnuts, spinach and flax seed contain high amounts of omega-3 fatty acid. Add these types of food to your diet every day.
Take vitamin C tablets. This water-soluble vitamin is readily absorbed by your body and can quickly restore your platelet count. You can also eat vitamin-rich foods such as oranges, kiwi fruit and cabbage. The recommended dosage of vitamin C is 500mg once a day. NOTE NOT ALL IC PATIENTS CAN TAKE VITAMEN C...SOME Can take the ESTER C IT IS COATED....but again thought I would throw that in for your info....but please note VIT C flares me and I can not take it....(most IC patients can not)...but again I do not know your histroy of diet and what you can and can not take.
Anyway....just a bit of advice....maybe if you add some of the above items to your diet, and cut out the things that may be causing your blood to thin may allow you to remain on elmiron. (I know elmiron is a blood thinner)...so i am sure this does not help your situation.
Hope the above info helps.
Peace
Blue

Has anyone else ever suffered this problem with Elmiron?, I can't live without Elmiron so stopping it is not an option.
